Shes in the first village. She makes a cameo apperance and gives you the tutrurial. (think the first house in narshe in ff6). She dosent play an active part in the storyline or anything (or at all really)

Its an easter Egg.

But Xenogears is an outstanding game in its own right and should be bought for that not for a brief cameo (although thats cool too)

For those not in the know Xenogears Is the fifth (out of six episodes) the first two being episodes 1 and 2 of Xenosaga.

I was under the impression that Xenogears was the first game in the series chronologically.

Xenogears Episode V was the first episode to be made because the staff didn't have enough cash. Episode V takes place some thousands years after Episode I.

After the staff left Square Enix for Namco, they made the first episodes (I and II) but had to rename the series Xenosaga because Square still hold the rights to Xenogears. I've heard rumors saying the series was scrapped and Episode III, IV, VI (plus V if it would have been remade) won't ever be produced.

I havent heard anything like that. From what i understand episode 2 sold well.

And Xenogears which is episode 5 in the series takes place roughly 50 or 60, THOUSAND years after the first episode.

Tell you what, when I'm back home in a week, I'll bust open my copy of Perfect Works and check the timeline. Sound good to everyone?

Maybe its just me, but did anyone else get reminded of Zeal when inside of that floating city? Or town or whatever it was? It reminded me alot of Zeal especially since I think they talked down bout the people who lived on the ground alot like the whole Zeal/earthbound thing.

Yes, Shevat was a lot like Zeal. And it was probably intended to be that way. Recall, if you can, that the three Sages of Shevat in that game are named Melchior (a.k.a. Taura), Gaspar and Balthazar (a.k.a. Ol' Man Bal).

Xenogears is my second favorite game, I love how serious and depressing it is, Square did a good job by taking a story corruption to the MAX. They were also not affraid of mentioning corrupted religions and death.

My favorite game CT. probably, because I like non-linear rpgs.

I might try to get Xenogears sometime, but is it anything like Xenosaga?  I have Xenosaga Episode 1, and I'm not very far at all in it, and I do NOT like it.  Too many cutscenes, not enough action, and the story seems too boring so far.

Xenogears is an incredible work of art. Xenosaga is a halfway decent movie. Don't judge Xenogears by Xenosaga.

I played Xenogears the whole way through.  I hated it.  You thought Chrono Cross made no sense, this brings complicated stories to a whole new level.

Mainly, the game was TOO LONG.  I mean WAY too long.  There were points after being int he game for what seemed like 100 hours I was thinking "This HAS to be the last boss of the first disc".  Turned out I was about 1/6t of the way through the game.

The second disc, then, turns into crap.  They were apparently short on production time, so instead of putting in gameplay, TOLD you what hapenned.  Like picture everything in Chrono Trigger from entering the Ocean Palace until you go to fight Lavos being TOLD to you, instead of playing through it.  Just like that.

Here is the real deal with Xenogears/Xenosaga:

The PS1 game we know as Xenogears was Episode five of a much larger, and unfinished tale.  Xenogears is one of the best RPGs of the PS1 era, but could have been the best ever (over shadowing even CT) if the creators has been allowed the time to finish the game.  Square got nervous and forced a rush job.  That’s why the second disk sucks so much.  Xenogears will forever go down in history as the Best Game That Could Have Been Even Better.

The truth about Xenosaga is that no one outside of Monolith Soft knows for sure if it the complete re-telling of the story we saw a hint of in Xenogears, or if it a re-invention of the whole thing.  Most likely, the second is true.  And last time I checked, Episode Three is still going to be released.  Though not as popular as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or the Chrono series, it is still making a profit.  And as long as it makes a profit, new ones will be made.  If you don’t believe me, ask yourself one question: How many Mega Man games are out right now?

Money Talks.
