Square-Enix launched a
new Chrono Trigger DS site today featuring the following trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/v/a2Au0Vmu8yg&hl=en&fs=1You can also download a low-quality 5MB version hereIt looks as though the DS version might be just a port, with added multiplayer features for the minigames, a new dungeon, and other small additions, but the only definitive information as of yet is available on the official site after watching the video.
NEW DANCE OF THE MOMOYAMA SHOGUNATE >>> The Chrono Compendium now has new and improved hosting, simplifying a few hurdles and making administrator access easier. In light of the new hosting, I'm revising the forum ranking system, implementing the Aegis system in the navigation bar, and figuring out how our annual contests should be structured. FaustWolf is our newest administrator as well. If you'd like to join in the discussion, check out
this thread. The new hosting and leadership will be known as...
The Peach Mountain Shogunate! To celebrate CT DS and the new hosting, behold Gorgeous My Stage, from Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
here!
MAGUS PATCH >>> The visual overhaul of Guile in Chrono Cross is complete, thanks to the art and texture overhaul done by BROJ and touched up by Satoh. What are you waiting for? Grab this patch, load a save just before visiting Termina in Another World for the first time, and recruit Magus in Chrono Cross! here's a preview vid showing what you can expect from the patch:

REAL WORLD >>> [1] The current issue of Nintendo Power, a twenty year retrospective, lists Chrono Trigger as the 5th best SNES game ever. Thanks to Dombattag.
[2] EGM's June 2008 Retro issue lists Chrono Trigger as the franchise fans would be most thrilled to see a sequel to. The editor writes, "Chrono Trigger remains one of the most beloved role-playing games ever created thanks to its innovative storytelling and streamlined gameplay. Its follow-up, Chrono Cross, was more like a side story than a sequel, focusing on new characters and a minor plot point from Trigger. And since then-nothing. Well, almost nothing: Rumors circulated of a Square-held trademark for a "Chrono Break," which ignited speculation (it's a break in time! Or maybe a brake, like on a car?) until the trademark lapsed. These days, all the company does with the series is quash fan efforts to remake the original-and if they're going to all that trouble, why not put some effort into a sequel, too?"
[3] Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda are still collaborating; this time, they developed a game called
World Destruction for the Nintendo DS. Hit that link to find the Wiki page; the plot sounds fascinating, as expected of Kato. I missed this, but
here it is, thanks to FaustWolf!
[4] Chrono'99 read that Mitsuda was originally asked to contribute to Final Fantasy XI, but was busy with Xenosaga. We know FFXI as the game that's keeping a lot of Chrono staff tied up at Square Enix and preventing them from making a new game. Read more
here.
HACKING AND PROJECTS >>> [1] Captain Dax is developing a neat Chrono Trigger savestate editor. If you're tired of using codes to give Magus the Shiva Edge or want to enable techs early, check it out
here and download an alpha version
here.
[2] Vehek found an action game Chrono sequel for RPGMaker2003 (sort of like the Zelda series), done in Spanish. Watch a Youtube preview
here and download
here.
[3] dan_death has sorted through all of the sound files generated from Chrono Cross' first game CD by Yazoo's dumping utility and identified which contain instrument samples versus the game's various sound effects. Intrepid sound data analysts can find a list of the instrument data files
in this thread. Sequencing data still needs to be found, but once it is, it should be possible to study the music format and import new music into Chrono Cross!
[4] Vehek has discovered a music importer for Romancing SaGa 3 and is testing it
here.
[5] Prophet's Guile made it to Gametrailers.com, w
here it got a bunch of views. Find links at the bottom posts
here.
[6] jsondag2 is coding a Chrono Trigger tech editor, and we need help identifying the various functions that determine tech properties. Basically this involves simply changing a byte or two in the Chrono Trigger ROM via jsondag’s tech editor and recording the resulting in-game tech effects. However, more advanced help in identification of enemy techs and figuring out how dual and triple techs are assembled is also crucial. Interested fans can check out the latest developments
in this thread and sign on to help.
