Square-Enix launched a new Chrono Trigger DS site today featuring the following trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/v/a2Au0Vmu8yg&hl=en&fs=1

You can also download a low-quality 5MB version here

It looks as though the DS version might be just a port, with added multiplayer features for the minigames, a new dungeon, and other small additions, but the only definitive information as of yet is available on the official site after watching the video.

NEW DANCE OF THE MOMOYAMA SHOGUNATE  >>>  The Chrono Compendium now has new and improved hosting, simplifying a few hurdles and making administrator access easier. In light of the new hosting, I'm revising the forum ranking system, implementing the Aegis system in the navigation bar, and figuring out how our annual contests should be structured. FaustWolf is our newest administrator as well. If you'd like to join in the discussion, check out this thread. The new hosting and leadership will be known as...The Peach Mountain Shogunate! To celebrate CT DS and the new hosting, behold Gorgeous My Stage, from Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon here!

MAGUS PATCH  >>>  The visual overhaul of Guile in Chrono Cross is complete, thanks to the art and texture overhaul done by BROJ and touched up by Satoh. What are you waiting for? Grab this patch, load a save just before visiting Termina in Another World for the first time, and recruit Magus in Chrono Cross! here's a preview vid showing what you can expect from the patch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TG0r25AhkU. And here's the patch itself -- see the readme inside the zip for instructions and full credits, because this project is a labor of love carried through by the devotion of many dedicated fans! Download here!

RELEASES >>>  [1]  Andrew Judson is the winner of the Spring's Gift fan art contest thanks to a wonderful piece depicting Ayla riding a Ptero. Check it out by clicking here[2]  Chrono Trigger's Russian translation has been posted to ROMHacking.net. Grab it here[3]  Ozzie created a screensaver of the Square Enix countdown site. Grab it here[4]  FaustWolf has created a Radical Dreamers patch for the 1MB ROM for fans using Macs that can't run Demiforce's EXE file. Grab it here[5]  Donutbandit0 has written a sweet explanation of how to trap rare Elements in Chrono Cross using the Cuscus. Find it here.

REAL WORLD  >>>  [1]  The current issue of Nintendo Power, a twenty year retrospective, lists Chrono Trigger as the 5th best SNES game ever. Thanks to Dombattag.  [2]  EGM's June 2008 Retro issue lists Chrono Trigger as the franchise fans would be most thrilled to see a sequel to. The editor writes, "Chrono Trigger remains one of the most beloved role-playing games ever created thanks to its innovative storytelling and streamlined gameplay. Its follow-up, Chrono Cross, was more like a side story than a sequel, focusing on new characters and a minor plot point from Trigger. And since then-nothing. Well, almost nothing: Rumors circulated of a Square-held trademark for a "Chrono Break," which ignited speculation (it's a break in time! Or maybe a brake, like on a car?) until the trademark lapsed. These days, all the company does with the series is quash fan efforts to remake the original-and if they're going to all that trouble, why not put some effort into a sequel, too?"  [3]  Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda are still collaborating; this time, they developed a game called World Destruction for the Nintendo DS. Hit that link to find the Wiki page; the plot sounds fascinating, as expected of Kato. I missed this, but here it is, thanks to FaustWolf!  [4]  Chrono'99 read that Mitsuda was originally asked to contribute to Final Fantasy XI, but was busy with Xenosaga. We know FFXI as the game that's keeping a lot of Chrono staff tied up at Square Enix and preventing them from making a new game. Read more here.

HACKING AND PROJECTS  >>>  [1]  Captain Dax is developing a neat Chrono Trigger savestate editor. If you're tired of using codes to give Magus the Shiva Edge or want to enable techs early, check it out here and download an alpha version here[2]  Vehek found an action game Chrono sequel for RPGMaker2003 (sort of like the Zelda series), done in Spanish. Watch a Youtube preview here and download here[3]  dan_death has sorted through all of the sound files generated from Chrono Cross' first game CD by Yazoo's dumping utility and identified which contain instrument samples versus the game's various sound effects. Intrepid sound data analysts can find a list of the instrument data files in this thread. Sequencing data still needs to be found, but once it is, it should be possible to study the music format and import new music into Chrono Cross!  [4]  Vehek has discovered a music importer for Romancing SaGa 3 and is testing it here[5]  Prophet's Guile made it to Gametrailers.com, where it got a bunch of views. Find links at the bottom posts here[6]  jsondag2 is coding a Chrono Trigger tech editor, and we need help identifying the various functions that determine tech properties. Basically this involves simply changing a byte or two in the Chrono Trigger ROM via jsondag’s tech editor and recording the resulting in-game tech effects. However, more advanced help in identification of enemy techs and figuring out how dual and triple techs are assembled is also crucial. Interested fans can check out the latest developments in this thread and sign on to help.

FAN STUFF  >>> Chronological Gangster is nearing completion, and he's posted a Youtube of Roc Boys with Ayla's Theme here. Now to fanfiction. Nickolz wrote a one-shot piece about Fritz's travels that got him into trouble; find it here. x_XTaCTX_x brings a short narrative about Queen Zeal to us with This Throne. Moving on to art...AgniTheFire took four pictures from a recent con; the costumes are done very well: [ Frog - Karsh - Lynx - Ozzie ] Next is a Kid piece by Satoh; find it here. He also made a Wolflobe sword 3D model; find it here and here. Following that is a big, nice illustration by Jai featuring the Chrono Trigger characters; see it here. Oatmeal1209 joins in with a humorous two-shot comic depicting Magus testing out Gato; find it here. x_XTaCTX_x appears again with a Crono and Serge from iScribble; gaze at it here. Next is a version of the Final Battle by Nimbus, viewable here. From grey_the_angel comes a chibi version of Grobyc; take a look here (colored). Next, Princess Schala Zeal has posted several of her favorite Schala pieces; find it here. Hmstr1hom also got in on the Forrest Gump action; check out Crono Gump. Next are some original Chrono characters by ChronoWeapon. [ Garet Beldam (Two) - Tomo Levine (Two, Three) - Lex Bluriver (Two) - Ty Drayguard (Two) ] Now for something different: user Thacrudd made a new desk for his computer using Mammon Machine inspired panels. Check it out: [ One - Two - Three - Four - Five ]

All you sheep in search of a shepherd
Look up
To my stage
Gorgeous, my stage

As our dream continues tonight,
Oh! Gorgeous my,
My stage!!

And to add yet ANOTHER "Real World" blurb...I'm guessing there's just gonna be about a million entries for this section of the News Updates for the next year or so, right? *fingers crossed for beyond that when SE announces a sequel* ;)...

Chrono Trigger DS is listed as #5 on www.IGN.com's "Most Anticipated E3 Games of 2008" list. I'm betting most everyone else has it on their list as well.

Check the article HERE.

Moving on to art...AgniTheFire took four pictures from a recent con; the costumes are done very well: [ Frog - Karsh - Lynx - Ozzie ]

These people in cosplay are from a Brazilian theater cosplay group called WoW (which exact meaning I don't remember right now). I've found several other pics of them, including Serge, Crono, Marle, Lucca, Nikki, Miki... well, a lot of characters. I just won't post them now cuz it's already too late. x_x

They are gonna present a Chrono (both Trigger and Cross) based play called "Chrono - De Volta para o Futuro" (Chrono - Back to the Future... yeah, like the movies). It will be in June 18th, at Anime Friends, a huge annual event. I won't be there at the day, but I'm contacting a few people to make videos and take pictures. If I find them myself, I'll surely fill my camera with photos. =P And I shall post everything here afterwards.

And, one more thing...

Nickolz wrote a one-shot piece about Fritz's travels that got him into trouble; find it here.

Read it! I'm always waiting for more critiques. ^^

Edit: link to the fanfic fixed... ^^'

Hey, Nickolz, idk how you managed it, but the link in your quote of ZeaLitY (the one where you pimp your fanfic) links to the Temporal Displacement (CT Savestate Editor) thread...I checked ZeaLitY's post, and his link is fine...Did you change it on accident or something? It's weird because it's the difference between "5675.0.html" & "5498.0"...>_>

That sounds cool about that theater group...I hope people get images at least...a vid would be great!

Well, anyways, I'm gonna try reading your fanfic, I guess...but in exchange for my critique post, you must read a chapter of MY fanfic (BWAH HAHAHA! I might actually get my old PC fixed sometime in the next few months so I could actually start working on Magness again! *shock*)!!!

I expected to see Wrath of the Lich King on there. Except for CTDS, all the other 9 games look like bullcrap...

Um, I forgot to mention, that's their "Most Anticipated E3 NINTENDO Games of 2008" that I linked...idk if that changes what you were talking about Schala (mainly because I haven't heard of either of the games you mentioned)...And what's wrong w/another Castlevania? Nothing, that's what.

Also, maybe there should just be a thread for "Real World Chrono News"? Since I'm forecasting such articles in magazines & websites for the next 6~8 months at least.
