Indeed, it's beautiful! More than any other 3D Frog I've seen.

I don't know if it's just because it's an static pose, but his cape seems much unreal and weird? Will you still edit it or add some texture or make some incredible 3D thing on it? Or is it already finished and will look way cooler in the final piece?

Maybe the head seems too big
I had gotten that before when showing it to a friend, and it does look big when compared to some of the square art. I actually shrank it a bit between the last two pics. I beleive it came out a little large because the chrono resurrection reference pic had it a little too large, and that was what I used to model the head initially (http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/FrogConcept.jpg)

It does look like it should be smaller when compared to this (http://www.rpgplanet.com/chrono/images/ct/oaw-frog.jpg)

You are completely right, right now the cape is basically a shape / placeholder. There arent folds in it or any cloth simulation right now. It's there to help me see and plan ahead what I will want it to look like. I plan to have it looking better in the final version/versions to come.

As far as the eyes, V is right, they are more 'reptilian' than amphibian, but I liked the look so I went with it.  I would rather have something more like (http://gallery.photo.net/photo/5826000-lg.jpg) towards the end, but we will see.

I like the chain too, I added it because I saw it in a frog fan art drawing that I really liked, although I am not sure of its purpose. (http://www.cutelucca.com/Frog.jpg)

V_trans - I think the legs look too short in the 3d model compared to the pic you posted and that could also be why the proportions look off. Again they were modeled from the CT-Res artwork which may be off, but I will tweak the proportions a bit.

Thanks everybody! More updates soon.

latest:

To make the chain more 'useful' i added a hopefully olde english like emblem (hopefully not taking that too overboard), added leather belt straps to boots/gloves, did wrinkles in the pants, and put some metal plating on the tops of the boots (it look like  fabric in the square art that is the same material as the armor, which doesnt make much sense, so I just made them metal plates). Also shrank the head some more.

PS - its getting near that time when i need to figure out what kind of scene[ery] and pose he will be in for a final shot, so if you have an idea let me know

Can you bring the global lighting to ~12:00 of Frog's anterior so I can get a better look at the model's textures.

Alright, I think I like the chain now that it seems to serve a purpose, but how about instead of being entirely ornamental, it holds something like...

The Hero Medal! I think that'd be a lot neater & useful than some kind of, idk...victorian cross or whatever that is...? But maybe putting in the Hero Medal would be too difficult?

Anyways, looks better already with just that little bit of a head reduction!

I like it... I wish we could find need of it in Chrono Cross: The Darkness Beyond Time...

No; wait.  I don't like it.  I LOVE IT!  It just keeps on getting better and better!

Hmm...the extreme light makes it look weird...It also drew my eye to his arms, which looks like you haven't changed to Frog's skin tones...?

As for setting, how about the top of Magus' Castle?

If you like challenges how about Magus vs. Frog in the castle? I am not expecting it, but it'll be cool.

Looks good so far, Straafe; I don't know if this would detract from your envisioning, but could you replace the aged ferrous texture on the cuirass, shield and sheath with more of a brassy or gold texture(whichever looks better).

his skin should all be the same tones as reference. you cannot see the brown stripe/green on the arm because those colors are on the back side of the arm.

I will see if i can find a happy medium, i made it a little more reflective and changed the tone to a little bit of a mroe 'gold tone'

ive stopped workin on textures for a while because i have been workin on the less-fun areas of creating the rig(skeleton/bones, etc) for him so he can be posed/animated.

edit- finally finished the rig, it was morecomplicated that i thought. But now he can be animated/lip synced/whatever

i may have to take a short break on this project before i do anything else, so i decided to make a quick, dynamic pose with what i have and render it out in good quality and 1300x1200 resolution. I'll call this a 'mostly-complete' (~80%) representation of the 3d frog project.

For those who are familiar, ambient occlusion has also been used to bring out the details. I was going for an attack pose (mid swing, in the air), but it might pass as a version of the victory pose. Feel free to let me know your thoughts. I added another version with slight Depth of Field to see if it would add realism, so take your pick on which you like best.

Looks great, but shouldn't the arms be exposed?
