Is it me or is Lavos basically..
« on: July 15, 2008, 04:28:29 pm »
Is it me or is Lavos basically the same as Galacticus (The giant Silver Surfer badguy)? Think about it..

They are both huge.
They both are, or, in the case of Lavos, have a part of them that is, Humanoid.
They both "consume" planets.
They both have something that was supposed to be beneficial to them, but this backfired majorly.

That last ones a little hard to explain.

Galacticus had the Silver Surfer. He was supposed to help him, by finding planets. In the recent Rise of the Silver Surfer movie, he blew the living daylight out of him.

Lavos had the Planet, to harvest. Food. Food is good. If the Planet is the Entity, and it did create the Time Portals, therefore ending Lavos's life, Lavos's harvest of ChronoEarth backfired.

What'dya think?

Welcome to the Compendium Insane!! :D

There has been a lot of talk about the real nature of Lavos, and his purpose of consuming Planets..
Some say he's just a super-evolved biological, others say he's a superweapon gone awry, but there's nothing really definitive..

Anyway, your analogy is still good, Galacticus did consume the Planets that he encountered, very much like Lavos did...

Gah! How dare you compare my great Master Lavos to your disguesting, stupid, Comic book trash! I'll kill you! *Runs head first into the computer screen thus leading to headaches*

Waaaaaa I want my Wavos!  :(

Um yea but I'm pretty sure (knows little to nothing about comic book trash...sorry I reeeaaallly hate superhero comic books, everytime someone dies they just find a cheap way to bring em back) Galacticus was nither a large tick like creature, borrowed into the planet and slowly over time feeds on it, bursts out of the planet and let's out hundred of children! (Bunch of wittle Wavos!)

In the end the comparison ends at:
Big
and
Eats (Even though they eat them in diffrent ways)

So I can't see how they compare......

You have offended Master Lavos! He'll get you in 2012! Just you wait!

Don't encourage him in this! His analogy is not Good! Gahhh *Foams at the mouth*

Ok seriously sorry I was joking...

But really I don't see a substantial connection.

I think you cold find more relation between Lavos and a flea or tick then you could Galacticus...just my opinion. Like I said before though I know only a little about Galacticus as I know almost nothing about Comics books other then there ability to repel me like a Bible on a cheap vampire movie villain!

I need V to confirm this for me as I don't read Ultimate universe only the original and a few spin-offs, but if I heard right in the ultimate universe Galacticus is a swarm of tick like bugs the do devourer planets.

Hey, I'm just using this off that old TV show that was on Saturday mornings. Heh. But, yeah, there are differences, but still simalarites. The first thing I thought when I saw that Fantastic Four film was, "Square can sue their ****s off for making him look like that.." All Galacticus needed was those.. quill..things..

What I mean is that Lavos is based on Galcticus. Or the remake one is based on Lavos. Because they both kinda look like weird rocks. And eat planets and stuff.

In the Ultimate series Galactus IS a swarm of insect-like robots (the robots look similar to the Sentinels in The Matrix films).  They have a hive mind and refer to themselves as Gah Lac Tus (or some spelling like that).

Aren't there more similarities to Galactus-like beings from The Eternals, the Celestials...?

Well, I suppose depending on how intelligent you think Lavos' designs are...There's a lot more manipulation of the planet/beings in the comparison to the Celestials, right? And also, they even create super beings (The Eternals), which you could possibly compare to the Frozen Flame's "evolution" of humanity...You could even compare the Deviants to either the Reptites or Mystics...!

Jack Kirby rulz your face.

To illustrate a problem with your comparison, allow me to make a few others using the same criteria:

Is Lavos basically the same as The Dark Dweller (the villain in old cartoon show, The Pirates of Dark Water)?

Both are huge (given that the dark water is an extension of the Dark Dweller's Body, I'd say that counts as huge)
Both are humanoid (the Dark Dweller, at least, can take on Humanoid form)
Both "consume" planets (the Dark Dweller wants to cover Mer in darkwater).
They both have something that was supposed to help them but backfired (consuming Octopon, which was supposed to end the threat of anyone collecting the Thirteen Treasures of Rule).

Is Lavos basically the same as the Borg?

Both are huge (the Borg being a collective of beings far greater than a single individual instance)
Both are humanoid (we never see a non-humanoid borg)
Both "consume" planets (the Borg do so by assimilating the people on the planet and any aspects of the planet itself that they can use).
They both have something that was supposed to help them but backfired (their collective consciousness has been the downfall of the Borg on several occasions)

Is Lavos basically the same of Unicron?

Both are huge (Unicron actually being planet sized)
Both are humanoid (Unicron can transform into a humanoid thingy)
Both Consume planets (Unicron is also known as the Planet Eater)
Both have something that was supposed to help them but backfired (the creation of Galvatron, who's attempts at double-crossing Unicron helped the Autobots defeat the big bad planet)

Is Lavos basically the same as the Rockbiter from the Never Ending Story movie?

Both are huge (Rockbiter is a giant)
Both are humanoid
Both consume planets (well, rockbiter literally eats the rocks of a planet)
Both have something that was supposed to help them but backfired (Rockbiter was on a quest to help save Fantasia, but that quest ultimately leads him to his own death).

Do you see where I am going with all this? With such vague guidelines, one can compare Lavos to a lot of other fictional creatures. If Lavos was based on Galactus, judging from such criteria as you present, then it was also based on a failed 80's cartoon show, pulp science fiction, a really bad 80's movie, and a giant muppet.

Have you ever heard that people often ignore any fact that goes against what they wanna hear or believe?
From what I can tell there is little to nothing similar then again I hate those kind super heroie comic thingies so it could be personal...maybe it's just be me....

I didn't know, but I'm egotistical enough to generally just assume. ;) And it is really bad to encourage me, because then the following might happen.

...

Hey, I just noticed, Galactus's physical appearance is totally based on the Pope! I mean, they look so similar.

Take a look at that picture of Galactus again, from Kebrel's post.

Now, we can identify 4 major similarities between the appearances of Galactus and the Pope (I'll post pictures so you can see what I mean).

1) The hat; they both wear almost the exact same hat (all the Pope's hat needs is those quill thingies)

2) The Scarf; they both have a piece of their costume that wraps around their neck and hangs loosely in front on them (Galactus' is blue)

3) The shoes; they are both wearing silly red shoes.

4) The dress; they are both wearing dresses (well, robe like things; in Galactus' case it appears to be a miniskirt).

You can see the original picture I cut those from here: http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/04_03/PopeBenedictR_468x753.jpg

Also, Galactus possesses the Power Cosmic while the Pope has the power of God (which certainly seems analogous to the Power Cosmic). They are almost the same.

Does that mean that if Lavos is based on Galactus, and Galactus is based on the Pope, that the Pope is really Lavos?!

...

Anywho, sorry Insane. I'm not trying to attack you, but I just found the pope similarities to Galactus too amusing.

I think your looking for the statement

"That's improbable!"

I flat out agree, with such vauge Guidelines I could find a way to twist them till I could say Lavos was based off of me...then sue Square-enix and actully win! (If everyone followed the same guideline)
