I don't recall Zenny being in Chrono Trigger.  I remember it being, simply, G.

Since when is Zenny the same as "G"?

Boo is quite right.

Anyways, I hope they don't make redundant changes, like "G" to "Gil" (this isn't Final Fantasy)

Chrono Trigger's money was Woosley'd as Zenny. We got the actual monetary value name, Gold, in Chrono Cross, though, if I recall correctly.
Wouldn't it be Zeni, an archaic Japanese currency?

I actually thought G stood for Gil at one point, but never Zenny (now I know it's just G) =/

Damn, I checked and, yeah, it was G...I wonder what made me think it was Zenny...Hmm...Anyways, I guess we could assume that Chrono Cross basically expanded the G to mean Gold, then...?

Dammit! I think I put in Zenny in Magness somewhere too...fuck!

Well, yeah, ok...so what? I was basically saying that Chrono Cross backs up such a claim then, yeah? I don't see why you were asking whether or not I had read that you thought the G stood for Gold...

OK, I know I said I wasn't worried at first, but the Siliconera take on the script bothers me... a lot.

Majoring in English, I've always been against unnecessary script changes, especially if they only add irrelevant words, like the example Siliconera cites.  I see no reason to add anything to what Crono's mom says originally; it's all there.  If it's in her character to ramble, maybe... but she never came off like that to me.

In my opinion, this is an ongoing and irritating trend in both games (The GBA "Final Fantasy" remakes, later "Mega Man X" games) and TV ("Yu-Gi-Oh!" and most any dubbed anime I've seen) and it needs to stop.  One of the most important rules in Strunk's and White's handbook for writing is "remove unnecessary words," and the entertainment industry needs to remember that.

I don't expect people to agree with me on this (I got booed off of Mega Man Network for complaining about the pompous speech in "Maverick Hunter X"), but I feel it needs to be said.  If the DS remake has everyone speaking like bureaucrats or blowhards when they don't have to, it won't be getting my money.

I understand what you mean, ker-plop, but I don't think that's a translator's job...They aren't editors. They should be trying to translate as it was intended. If they can fix certain things that were left out from Woosley's original translation, I think it's all for the better...But maybe I'm just too much of a purist in that sense...?

I'm not against additional content; just adding more words to something that was understandable before.  I also prefer it when characters speak like regular, everyday people (in the circumstance above, for example, my mom would say what was in the SNES script as opposed to the new stuff).

If the translators are just translating, then maybe the industry should have editors, too.  After all, video games are another form of media, and most every other form (books, newspapers, TV, radio) have editors to make sure the messages are clear.  Of course, if they already do have editors... then I'd have to say they're not doing a very good job lately.
