That's actually pretty cool, but I think the Producers just thought of the Chrono Cross as the convienent cure all solution with no inherent logic behind it other than it's pwnage power.

No, it has logic, you just seem to miss it. The Dragon tear bestowes life (Having Serge reborn), thus it is the best path to use a song of life. Besides the fact that you look at them as Dragon Tears, not shards. The shards are important. The tears of Love and Hate. And like Lynx said:

Now, let love bleed!
   Darker and deeper
   than the seas of hell!
   Heh heh heh...!
   HAH HAH HAH HAAAH...!

The Tear of Hate turned Serge into his nemesis, and the Tear of Love turned Serge back into a human.  Love and Hate are two forces that build the world, that build any life. A mother needs to hate the enemies of her child and love the child himself. Otherwise, the child could never survive.

As for what worlds it affects... You may of forgotten where it came from. If you would be right and the world of origin is effected, the human world would never be able to use the Chrono Cross, as it came from the Reptite Dimension.

Nice, I was about to say the thing about the "Darker and deeper
   than the seas of hell!
   Heh heh heh...!
HAH HAH HAH HAAAH...!". Though, your only problem is that the Dragon Tear didn't smash when Lynx turned into Serge. It only smashed when Lynx sent Serge to that warped dimension. I have screen shots. Lynx holding the tear, and the next second it explodes after that quote in his hand.

I always got the feeling he shattered it so Serge coulden't use it to turn back to his old self. Still, it dosen't really matter.

Um, no, the Chrono Cross was built in the Home/Another dimension. so....fuu. :P

And the Dragon Tear could've been made in the human dimension around the time Dinopolis was pulled back. They could've made it specifically for stopping FATE or...something.

So what? I'll bring an alien laser cannon and an alien tank, and put them together in my back-yard. Now that's an earth-weapon, yes?

Yeah, chaning bodies would be SO helpful. Being as FATE is a computer, I doubt it would help them.

Maybe they intended the tear to be sort of Trojan Horse. You know, something tempting for FATE to use in her advantage, but that would end up turning against her.

The Dinopolians didn't even know that FATE or Chronopolis existed because the Dinopolians destroyed the Humans millions or years ago.

Though, I like the idea of FATE using the Dragon Tear or the Chrono Cross to become human, or like it was stated, another speices. I'm acctually sad for FATE, and about it's tragic ending. I think the makers of the game made it look to much of a bad guy, without a real reason.

She was a bad guy (or gal), in Serge's perspective. Serge was an enemy of the planet, and therfore of mankind, and FATE was mankind's protector. Still, you're right, and she is a very sad entity. She wanted to be alive, not a machine. Remember what she tells Serge before you fight her?

"Show me what it means to be 'alive'!"

No even better! It needs to be a wrench. Oil and little nuts and bolts roll into the drain, and Lucca's like. "What have I DOOOONE!!!" That whole Lynx kidnapping? That was staged. She killed herself. The Lucca in the flashback was Luccia's cousin, Lucciea. Her exact twin and double.

Killed herself? Hardly. She went back in time to merry Glenn, but found he was already married to Flea. So she decided to marry Tata. Better then nothing, I guess.
