Aside from the fact that Famitsu ponders who the "guy-who-looks-exactly-like-the-Prophet" could possibly be, it's still an agonizing, nail-biting wait until Nov 25 for me. For the first time since Cross, Chrono fandom will need to adjust to new canon.

Do we know the nature of how the ending is unlocked yet? If it's simply defeating Lavos prematurely as in the other alternate endings, it could be dismissed just like those "alternates," more of an apochryphal footnote like Frog marrying Leene or the Prophet taking on Lavos in Crono & Co.'s absence. On the other hand, if the Dimensional Vortex's appearance is tied to the "good ending," then it is, indeed, incontrovertible canon in my mind.

This was part of IGN's Hands-On preview that I posted about earlier (though I thought I had heard about the new ending even before this here somewhere, but I couldn't find it)...

Two added dungeons have made their way into the game, as did a wireless mode which we'll have a full hands-on with next week (it's a local wireless monster battle game that's built into the main Chrono Trigger quest), and on top of that a gigantic list of options, which we'll detail below. As for the dungeons themselves, you'll get both the Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum. The Vortex will become available after beating the game, and is actually the 14th alternate ending in the game, while the Lost Sanctum is a mid-game quest, added in to include more story and deliver some new equipment.

Aye, Chrono Cross was a deep game, so it needed a bit more explaining than CT--hence the reason it can be considered somewhat imperfect.

So the Dimensional Vortex is essentially a playable ending, right? That's definitely going to be neat. I wonder how much change these new additions are gonna bring to the existing story lines.

EDIT: Did any of you take a look at the CTDS site? The English counterparts to all the videos of the new content are up. Forgive me if I'm behind, but I was pretty surprised by these quotes about the Dimensional Vortex:

That's right at the End of Time, the next scene shows basically what we saw in the screen shots posted in this topic.

Yeah, there's talk of a new boss...could the Dimensional Vortex lead to the Devourer of Time...? Maybe it'll let you do what Serge does in Cross only in an easier, less round-about way...Although then they'd have to get around not using the Chrono Cross, huh...never mind I guess...

Having seen the Dimensional Vortex video, and combining that with what little else I know about the series (compared to someone who actually played Cross and got endings besides the Dream Team) I'd say we might witness the creation of the Time Devourer.  The Prophet and Schala both have blue hair, so I don't see why they wouldn't use the prophet's back sprite for Schala wearing a hooded robe. 

Perhaps if the mysterious figure turns around or otherwise reveals itself, it might turn out to be Schala, or it might be the Lavos Core in disguise.  Of course, it could be Queen Zeal, back from the dead, ready to merge with lavos and destroy time, only to be eaten by the Time devourer because Schala beat her to it.  Or it could be Queen leene, Lucca, or Crono's long-lost brother who actually talks.  I'll leave it to the reader to decide which of those sentences is a joke.  My point is, you just never know.

Regardless, my money's on Schala merging with Lavos, and that is where it will stay until I am proven wrong.
