I was just thinking.  Clearly some members of the Dream Team had to reunite for the new content to CTDS.  That means there's hope for them reuniting for another game!  WOOT!

 In the past, several members expressed excitement over the idea of getting back together, so it wouldn't surprise me. And as sad as this new ending is, it may just mean "ME JANUS YOU SCHALA" will be postponed until another game. Memory shmemory.

Perhaps it's different forms of it's evolutionary path.  After all, Schala goes through a change, as does the creature.  The Dream Devourer may be it's infancy, while the Time Devourer may be some later form.
