Magus: Humans didn't know what he looked like?
« on: November 26, 2008, 12:49:22 am »
If you put Magus in your party, you'll probably notice that nobody in 600 AD does so much as even look at him funny, save for mystics perhaps (and I will continue to call them mystics!). Walk right on into the castle with him sometime.

I'd imagine other people might have come to this conclusion too, but I think the reason for his lack of attention could possibly be that nobody knew it was him to begin with. The only likeness of him you see in that era is a statue tucked way deep into the cathedral, which most people either will never find (secret door) or will be too scared of venturing that far.  Magus probably struck by night, if ever. And people generally would not see Magus and live to tell about it. (or at least talk much of it if they really aren't comfortable...   ...gleeeeennn...) So, if Magus walks casually into the castle, as long as Crono or Lucca or someone is with him, nobody thinks anything of it. "Oh, another friend of Crono's." Let's go hit up the inn!

Yeah I thought it was very weird as well. Even if they didn't know his exact looks, he looks like a typical Mystics leader.

Well, even if you put him with Frog into your party and do Cyrus' Ghost side quest, there won't be any special dialogue.
Although Frog will refer to Magus before Cyrus' grave.

You base this statement on...?

Most Mystics look like monsters, and not really humanoid. Magus on the other hand is actually human but with a really really dark look. The pointy ears, the cape... If I'd see him I'd think immediately he was the leader. Besides they'd seen statues of him. Sure it didn't have all details but at least the long hair and the scythe should make them think.

Magus was a prince of Zeal, hurled in to the future during the Ocean Palace disaster and who grew to become the leader of the Mystics. I don't think he looked at all typical for a leader of the Mystics. If anything, Ozzie is a typical example of Mystic leadership.

If Ozzie showed up in town there would be immediate chaos. The towns folk wouldn't know what to think of the hideous creature. If Magus showed up in town, they'd think he was a strange looking man with a cape. Isn't that Tata?

This discussion makes me curious as to whether Flea ever went to town on secret spy missions.

Probably, she could shape shift so it wouldn't be hard.

Anyway you'd still think they'd recognize Magus from the statues

Remind me of where the other statues are in 600 AD. The only one I saw was in the Cathedral.

Yeah the Cathedral where Leene was being held and where Glenn checked out all the rooms. Speaking about Glenn, he might have told them how Magus looks.

What the...?! Hey, Flea's a GUY!

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist, anyhow, I thought about this the other day--I guess after looking at Crono and Frog, Magus just looks like another bloke they're walking around with. I agree though, we should have seen some dialog change, at least at Cyrus's grave...

Whom would he have told, and when? He didn't exactly spend much time at the local bar after being turned into Frog.

Yet an old man in the Porre tavern notes how a strange frog-man came in and rambled on about "Masamune this and Queen Leene that". If he was chattering about that, he might as well have chatted about Magus himself.
