I'm not sure if this question has been asked/answered but if you can only reach the end of time with 4 in your party, how is it that whenever a gate is used they always end up in the end of time?

What V said... I always say it's just a gameplay quirk. That's the problem with some games with excellent storyline; there are certain plot holes that are made from those ever-annoying gameplay quirks.

Zipp Dementia made a theory topic a little while back, you might want to look at that. It's still anyone's guess exactly how it works though. :/

Game Mechanics, simple as that. Think of it as just going into a  menu of Eras to select, like the start menu andd all it's sub-sections.

 That brings up something new about the retranslation. According to Gasper, more than three people can enter a gate without it throwing them in the end of time, but they all have to be from the same period. If four or more beings from different periods enter a gate, that's something else.
