It's been several weeks since I touched the code, so since yesterday I've been doing some major modifications. I won't be able to integrate the SDL media engine for maybe a week or so. I've already written so much code that it'll take a while to pretty it up and fix.

Not only that, but I'm also implementing vectors to manage dynamically-allocating arrays like the item inventory.

If you need character portraits that match the CT style, I might be able to help:
I made this for another Schala project, but I don't think they're using it...I basically ran a Schala image through an image program and got it down to 16-colors. I don't think you're bogged down by such limitations, but it'd be a nice nod to the old days.

Well, thing is I plan for this to be 32-bit. On top of that I want to introduce new portraits without the 16-bit limit. Sprites will be the same.

I am looking into the possibility of a 3D game engine as well. Not good quality, but Golden Sun type 3D. I've seen a few techniques, so that might come in a future version.

Cool cool, that's no problem--I was just letting you know that if ya needed a hand, I got one (and still do, since the program can cut down gifs to 32-bit as well). Anyhow, good luck; it's nice to see someone so ambitious work so diligently.

Yes, yes she does.

BTW, Anyone got any thoughts on a running sprite for Queen Zeal?

Hmm... we already have quite a bit of floating. She seems like a floating person, though. My vote is for her to be sitting on air while she floats. Or doing a really stupid run.

In real life, Queen Zeal probably doesn't have to run -- servants probably come out of the woodwork and carry her on one of those mini-float thingies you see in medieval movies.

^-- That's what I hate about trying to do running animations for royal females or ones with robes.  It's so damned hard to figure out how they'd run.

However, Schala's running sprite is just right I'd say. Rox may be able to take a page from your book.

Hmm...you know how Magus (and now Dalton) lean forward while they float, in a sort of dashing motion? Zeal shouldn't do that--her body should basically appear relatively still as she levitates/floats. It'd be really hard to picture someone of such a grand stature runnin' around.

Maybe she could teleport, like say if the party is running she just stops (or maybe walks at normal pace) and when the party comes to a stop or enters battle she teleports in behind them, though thinking about that and programming it, it'd be a pain.

I'm putting the programming portion of the project on hold for now. Keep working on the sprites though, they look great! I'm going to do Temporal Odyssey first though, because according to Nerd's plans, it will be simpler to make TO than SD. After I do TO, I'll be using much of the code from that as a foundation for SD, likely combined with much of the existing code I have right now.
