How many people have actually bothered to defeat them? Just curious...

Ten times normal, unless I miss my guess. It seemed about that way, at least. I took down Kid first, and considering she had something in the area of about 750 health normally, and I struck her with Forever Zero, Feral Cats, and about 40 or 50 strikes of 100hp damage, that amounts to about right. It was really easy, though, seeing that, not only was I at level 99, but also had taken away all elements, armour, and weaponry save for the basics from everyone (I wasn't sure what translated over to Lynx when you become him, after all, so decided to play it safe.)
Too bad it doesn't give a special ending or anything, though. After all, you cannot get it until at least the second time through; that would qualify it for special ending status, not unlike that in CT when you defeat Lavos at the Ocean Palace. I find it quite incongruous that Lynx falls down, even though, when I did it, he had about 750/850 health remaining: hardly enough to injury someone to near death.

Isn't it really easy? Like, you can strip them of Elements and equip beforehand...Or, if you de-allocate Serge, does it effect you as Lynx? I remember not having any Elements one time, but I don't remember if it was because I took them off beforehand or if you just don't get any as Lynx...Oh well...Prepare beforehand by allocating Black Elements on Serge I think, and it should be fairly good to go...Plus the Revives and healing Elements...oh, and take a putz as the third person, someone with low HP...

Yea, I beat them the second time around, I took out Serge first since he was opposite innate. I think I had Pip in my party or something so it was cake after that.

I think i defeated them the first time..it took a while though, my characters were really weak, and most of their attacks did minimal damage...i just kept alive...i didn't even know if i was supposed to win that battle or not.

There are some things I really never understood about this fight...

 - How did their stats just skyrocket like that?  Was it all for the sake of a challenge?
 - If you unequip all the party members elements pre-battle (as Translanka said he did), will they really be without during it?

why did they get so much strong?  i dunno, to make it more challenging.  to give an example where leaving former characters with the same amount of HP and stats they had when you possessed them, and then fighting them, is FF10's very last boss(es).  Those were easy as hell.

So basically, stat increase for gameplay purposes.

I have defeated them since I started my New Game+ everytime and I think that it is cool that you get to use the scythe also that lynx in the battle can use white elements. In a New Game+ if you are wearing the Prism armor they really cant kill you even their tech skills only do 1 hp damage to you.

I tried to on my first New Game + (Which is my current playthrough), and I didn't win due to being stupid without bothering to heal and instead recklessly shot for a ForeverZero, when I could have used a Blackhole instead and probably have killed them.
