A question about Magus (Possible Spoilers..)
« on: January 08, 2009, 01:59:54 pm »
I was wondering if he was suppose to be that easy to beat? I had Crono, Marle & Frog in my party. Marle & Frog were on healing duty when needed. I had only Frog hit him until around the end, got him to cast a water spell, proceeded to use Frost Arc which was hitting him for 1.2k damage every time. That's not many turns for a boss, I had more trouble with Zombor.

One party member did die but that was because I accidentally cast Frost Arc when I was meant to heal. I was under level 20 and this is my first time playing Chrono Trigger and I was told he was a pain to beat.

Is this intentional on the DS version? Has anyone compared the fight side by side DS vs SNES?

Man do I have to tread this forum lightly, so many threads with spoilers that are not tagged.  :x

CT was never that hard of a game to start with, I do recall him being harder in the snes version but I attribute that to me just being more skilled.

I still stand by my request for spoiler tags, but do know that on a ChronoForum that is to be expected sorry.

I don't see why this doesn't work as spoiler tags...

It's okay, I understand the game is quite old so it's expected.
I do play a lot of jRPG's so maybe I'm use to expecting bosses to be hard and thinking more about the fight and not just
y'know, hammering the A button on my DS hoping my general attacks will inflict a win.

He was difficult the first time I went against him mainly because I wasn't prepared. To me, it doesn't matter if the battle was hard, only that it was epic and something I won't forget in an RPG. I mean, the music fit the battle perfectly.

What's hard with two healers in your party? >_>

I can't think of any spoilerific topics that aren't fairly obvious from the title...

Frog didn't have his Heal spell at the time. But I agree, everything leading up to the fight was great. :)
But about the topics, I'm not very Chrono literate yet so I wasn't totally sure on what to avoid. Hehe.

I do Believe that battles in the DS version are easier.

Based on what...? I'm pretty sure all the monsters' stats are the same...CT isn't a game that needs to be nerfed at all, really...But knowing the ropes makes it instantly easy because most of the fights are about finding elemental weaknesses, weak spots, or the order you need to defeat certain parts or w/e...

Just go to the Church dungeon in the two versions. I haven't done any calculations but I do think that the dungeon's monters die faster in DS than SNitendo.

It's just a felling... whatever.

I doubt it. The only major battle difference was the Mammon Machine having a death sequence (goes out like the Guardian and the Giga Gaia) in CTDS where in SNES/PSX it just had the death noise and it was all over, like when Lavos 2 dies.

I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about how long it takes to defeat the enemies.

The monsters and bosses keep the same stats. I think it just seems easier because you know how to beat them now. Figuring out weaknesses was part of the fun during my first play through, but once you figure them out the game gets much easier.

That is pretty much it since the game hasn't changed all that much. So past strategies for the previous incarnations of the game will work just as well for CTDS.
