CT Cameos in other games...
« on: January 20, 2009, 03:33:23 pm »
I didn't really see a topic for this, but has there ever been a listing of the Chrono Trigger cameos in other games and their significance if any?

Off hand, I know Lucca appeared in Xenogears. Are there any other brief cameos or background appearances and/or refrences in other games?

I haven't played XG in so long. I must have forgotten this. If you don't mind when do they appear? What is the significance of their roles?

Sorry, I haven't played XG at all. XD
I only read the script a bit...but as I know, they are known as the 3 Sages.

No, they aren't. They are meant to be a Biblical reference just like 99% of the rest of Xenogears. Although, they may be a subtle nod to Chrono Trigger since Lucca appears in the game as a full cameo. The three are ancient sages of Shevat, and Melchior could roughly be approximated as a "guru of life" in that he has mastered nanotechnology and used it for purposes of genetic engineering. Additionally, Belthesar excels at working with machines - same as in Chrono Trigger. Gaspar...doesn't do much really. He isn't like a "sage of time" like the others are sages of "life" and "reason".

Additionally, all three are sages of Shevat, which is a floating "country" in the sky. Coincidence? Unlikely.

In the Japanese version of CT they weren't biblical references, though and I believe Kato's said before that he had no idea of the American translation differences (why would he?)...I wonder what their names were in the Japanese of Xenogears...

idk Shadow as I've never played the game...I assume it's just another fight or w/e that you go through...

And that looks like left to me, Vehek...what game is that? And why are the banners around the stadium just mirrored for the right side?? >_>

Yeah, I made a mistake with which side.
The game's Dynami Tracer, one of Square's games released on the Satellaview.

Ah, yeah, I had heard that a lot of CT stuff was reused for the Satellaview releases (because it was their most recent game, I believe).

Well you also have to remember that the Japanese version didn't name them after the three wise men, but named them Bosch, Hash, and Gash.  The similarities may just be recycled RPG themes.

Edit:  Unless the names in Xenogears were also different in the Japanese version, matching the CT name changes.

Ah yeah I forgot about the CT translation differences  :D.

Honeywood translated Xenogears. I believe that Perfectworks lists the Japanese names of the 3 sages as similar to Balthasar, Melchior, and Gaspar (but I don't recall the exact Japanese names) which would make sense because of the games numerous religious and philosophical references.

Don't forget Biggs and Wedge, though they're the ones making a cameo in CT. They show up in almost every Final Fantasy game that has come out.
