NOT Mute Crono
« on: January 25, 2009, 02:05:29 pm »
Ok, every site but this one says Crono is a mute. And of course the slideshow ending isn't canon, so in light of this I say we find as many instances as we can in which NPCs have to hear Crono speak. Then make a short article of it! To end this damn conspiracy!

People that say he's mute are stupid...I don't think we should even pander to them, really...but w/e...here's the first one: Lucca's name.

Marle: Can I have that back, please?

There is a lot of evidence to show that neither Crono nor Serge are mute. I think they don't have text boxes because the player is supposed to be Crono or something like that.

Lucca: Crono, what should we do?
Crono: Go with the Frog.

Well I'm avoiding the ones where its a yes or no answer because he could just nod his head.

True, true...

Um... how does Crono buy stuff? Although there are swords near Melchior's shop at the fairgrounds, there aren't little bottles of Tonics lined up in the shop, so he can't just point at them.

How many points will you spend?

Crono: 40. Want clone.

Serge's body is obviously not mute, as it shows (Dark) Serge (in Serge's body) saying, "I'm fine, Kid". Maybe they just don't like to talk much...

Serge also makes various choices ala FaustWolf's example with Crono...Most notably is the one I usually point out when you're asked what you're going to do about Kid's situation: "I don't know".

Shoulder shrug for i don't know. But through out the game there are many points where Serge has to talk, like when you talk to guile as Lynx, Serge explains the situation. But Crono only has a few, which I want to find.

Crono talks to Melchior shortly after Mt. Woe. Although it shows him simply shaking his head as Chrono Trigger starts to play, Melchior responds to something he says. It's something along the lines of, "You're gonna go to the Ocean Palace and kick some ass? Good show!"

That might've been true if not for the fact that not much later Macha restates that he specifically said, "I don't know". Not to mention he never moves!

Dude, it's obvious.  It's the same concept in which Link doesn't talk in the Legend of Zelda series.  The characters speak, but the game creators don't put text there so the player's can better immerse themselves into the role of the primary protagonist.  We, the players, get to choose the response, to a certain extent (and sometimes literally).

Though I understand that Crono and Serge were made silent protagonists so that the player could better relate to the story, I think the idea of having an actual, intentionally mute main character would be pretty cool.

Do you believe everything you Google?

An actual mute character throwback to the silent protagonist era might be pretty cool with today's technology (unlike with Serge, they could actually show emotion!)...

I don't believe! But I hate seeing it! I want to make a public service announcement on CNN or BBCworld about it!
