IDK, the runs were legit, so either a glitch or you don't actually have to complete the Black Omen.

How do we know that they're legit? I'm more likely to believe someone with TF experience than someone pumping codes into an emulator (no offense)...

Sounds like we all need to play through the game again and skip the Black Omen. You can't always get the free prize without eating the cereal first.

Once I finish getting everything I can, I will do just that.

I just started a new game on the original so I could fight the weakest form of Spekkio. After that I'll turn it up a notch and try to level up enough to see what happens if I beat Lavos at the Ocean Palace. It's been a while since the last time I beat him there and I think I may have already had New Game+ at that time. I can't remember.

Try and beat him WITHOUT doing the black omen though, if you can get a newgame+ the that will discredit the theory, as I recall doing.

That is not what you said here.

yeah, it is. There still remains a big difference between the Ocean Palace and the Black Omen, dear boy.

No offense taken, V_Translanka, but please once again note that that was the only time I have ever cheated in Chrono Trigger, and it ended with me not being able to gain NG+.

I know with all certainty that I have unlocked NG+ (without cheating) by beating Lavos without going through Black Omen, as it was the first way I ever beat the game.

I'm fairly certain I've done it on both the SNES and PSX versions.

I beat Lavos at the Ocean Palace and did not get New Game + for it. Which, I have to assume that because I did not get it there at that point in the game, it is impossible to get it before this point in the game, as well.

So much for that theory.
