Sick! As in Illness!
« on: February 03, 2009, 04:49:55 pm »
I haven't been on as much for a while cause I've been sick(which has clouded my mind of clear thought) and so it just came to me, what're some of your sick stories?
Doesn't have to be just "I was really sick" kind either, it can be how it was bad in the sense of even something little could've really messed you over.
Perfect example how yesterday had I not thought "I'm still a very little tiny bit sick so I'll rest today and get it all out of my system" I actually would've had an opportunity at a really awesome script writing for movies payed big bucks job!!!!
That ain't the worst thought. That's my second worst and keeping that at best since my worst isn't appropriate on all forums...

So, what's your worst? :?:

And if this is a bad topic, sorry just felt like I haven't been engaged in awhile and I'm bad at jumping in the middle of other topics...

First, try the Stuff you LOVE Thread. There's an issue there that could use your opinion.

Second... Hmm... Worst times are whenever I vomit. Seriously, I cannot take that.

Oh, have I got an illness for you!

I have a history of ear infections. Every year, at around the same time (give or take a few days), I get an ear infection. They usually clear up well enough. This has been going on for as long as I can remember.
Last August, however, I happened to catch a head cold at the same time, and the infection was the worst yet. So much pressure had built up, so it took the easiest way out; my ear drums. They looked like swiss cheese, and I was almost completely deaf for a month.
Lesson learned: Wear one of those hospital masks during August, or just stay away from sick people completely.

Well, that's the worst. Have a minor head cold right now.

Advanced bacterial conjuctivitis.  Sounds nasty?  THAT'S BECAUSE IT IS!

Picked it up in basic training at Ft. Jackson SC.  Basically imagine severe blinding pink eye, a sinus infection, an ear infection, sore throat, and migraines at the same time.

Worst I've ever felt.

The flu. My god, is that terrible. As well as any other stomach bug that makes you puke in the middle of the night. And then your pillow falls in it.

I have quite the slew of health problems. You guys interested in the list?

Gout sucks. It really sucks when I have to be on my feet for eight hours.

At least you weren't a 10-year-old me: unknowingly vomit on your pillow and sleep in it for half of the night. Oops.  :?

Stomach Flu, Hives, Fever along with a minor cold going on all at the same time.  The Hives I had I had to put cold water on it for them to stop itching, and I had to stay warm for my cold, yet stay cold for my fever.  Ugh, so horrible.

I'm generally healthy, but everytime I get sick I get sick really, really bad. I usually get the flu at least once a year. So this year I took a pre-emptive strike and got a flu-vaccine. Take that flu!

I don't have medical insurance right now as I am shit broke paying school loans, so I am very lucky to have access to the antibiotics that I need when I get sick free of charge.

First, I might have to steal this topic title for a sig line. It made me laugh.

Second: I've had three forms of illness that might merit mention.

3) Cancer. Actually, it wasn't that bad and I got better. Largely a positive and formative experience in my life.

2) Kidney Stone. Caused by the chemotherapy for the above. Worst pain ever. Seriously, women who have squeezed out 12 lb babies will tell you that kidney stone pain is worse. I actually passed out from the pain.

1) The second week of October 2006 will forever be known as the week from hell. It culminated in illness, but to fully understand the subtle bouquet and craptacularness, you need to know the background: I bought a DVD that didn't work, so I returned it to the store. Came out and... car wouldn't start. Called for a tow truck, a punk little car showed up instead -- the people I had called thought it was a dead battery. Well it wasn't, so that 1.5 hours was a waste. Called again and a real tow truck was sent. Went out to eat at Olive Garden while we waited. Tow truck came, the guy whacked the starter. Apparently dirt had gotten in it preventing it from turning over. Well, didn't need the tow, but we took it straight to a mechanic. Luckily we had two vehicles. A day later we went to pick up my car (and by car I totally mean minivan), and was returning to work when my wife called. Her car broke... in the middle of an intersection, as she was making a turn. Got it into a parking lot, luckily, but this is in the area of town where people get shot (well, one of those areas at least). So I turned around and went to wait for the tow truck with her. After 4 hours of the tow truck exiting the freeway on non-existent exits (we called to find out what was taking so long and got fake answers), he showed up and first didn't believe us that the car (and by car I totally mean truck) was broken. He turned it on with no problem. Except the problem wasn't with the engine starting, rather it was with all those belts in the engine not being on their proper track, at all. So, tow back to our mechanic. Next day, picked up the truck and everything looked good. Day after, threw up. For three days I could barely stand up from being hunched over the toilet. Eat? Forget about it. I did get a prescription to help with the nausea, but by the time it was filled I was already over it. Luckily my wife was there to help me. Unluckily she caught what I had and spent the next two days hunched over the toilet (but she had my prescription, so it was better for her). This happened one week after I was hired at a new job (and thus didn't have sick time yet). The second week of October 2007 wasn't as craptacular, but near it.

I can't recall the last time I was seriously sick in any way. It's been a year or two or so since I even had a cold or flu that kept me home from school.

When I was a kid I was prone to bad migraines, but ever after that, can't say I've been in the least sickly. Usually everyone else in my family around me gets badly sick, and I dodge it somehow... and if I get it, it's minor, or for a short time, but nothing serious. I must have an awesome immune system, which is all the more amazing considering how badly I sleep and eat.

Holy cow Thought, that's some story. Hope the cancer's gone for good -- I was lucky enough to get away from Melanoma with light surgery, but that still doesn't throw off the feeling that your body's a time bomb waiting to go off. I've been drinking green tea like a madman since then.

Well, not really an illness, but I had heatstroke after a cross country meet back in high school. When I woke up I spent about half an hour in a barfing amnesiac state, the amnesiac part of which was actually kind of cool.

Bleh, heatstroke sucks. Especially since having it once means you are more susceptible to getting it again.

Actually, health problems are often really fascinating looking back on them. They are eye-gougingly bad in the midst, though.

Nice to hear, and I will fully approve whatever it is you steal it for. I just didn't want people to think it's another stuff you LOVE topic just saying it's SICK! instead.

Hmm? I will have to see if I can catch this... if not could you tell me what it was somehow?

I stay rather healthy. Never had the flu. Never got seriously sick.

But there was this one thing that I had that was the most nauseatingly disgusting illness I've ever gotten. A few weeks ago, my uncle and I were on  our way to take the GED assessment test. After I took the test they told me I would be taking the Advanced Level GED Test. I was ecstatic. This would look good on my part considering 6/10 seniors in highschool couldn't pass a GED test if they wanted to. So my uncle and I left. We stopped at a gas station and I bought a "pummelgranite" energy drink. After the purchase I saw that it was not carbonated. That pissed me off, but I drank it any way. It seemed like it was drying out my mouth while I was drinking it. A few hours later I got these disgusting burps that tasted and smelled like rotten eggs infused with gasoline. The next morning I had the most horrible of stomach cramps. The stomach cramps were followed by more icky burps and diarrhea. My stomach looked as if it were going to pop. And just like that it disappeared. WHAT THE HELL WAS IT?

Not sure if this really counts, but one time I got an incredibly severe sunburn ALL over my body. Legs, face, neck, arms, back, stomach... Well, I couldn't sleep for 2 weeks, and EVERY night, my body had these Horrible, HORRIBLE spasms of pain that occasionally lasted for hours. It felt like I was being stabbed everywhere I had a sunburn. It lasted for a long time, and there was NO way to stop it. Aloe? No. Made it worse. Showers? no. Hurt like hell. Sleep? Impossible. Water? No, same as aloe. one night my father was forced to drive me to E.R. as I was screaming like a madman in the middle of the night from the incrdible pain. It's happened TWICE. Thus, to this day, I will NOT go to the beach, and Always wear sunscreen. ALWAYS.
