Schala, for me, equals "SKA-LUH".  Tidus equals "Tye-dus".

I read several replies, and I'm really shocked so many ones read "ska-what"..  :shock:
Doesn't Schnee or Schneider normal western names ? (I don't know how they are actually pronounced, but I think sk- will be veeeeery strange).
Perhaps that's a bad example, I don't know if there are special rules to pronounce a person's name...

Yes, thank you. I'm from the midwest, which has horrible American accents, and even I arrived at a soft Sh- sound.

Yeah, I never thought there was another way besides shah-luh...They should have just kept it as Sara.

As for Tidus...I know that tee-dus is more correct according to Japanese pronunciation, but I usually say tye-dus...they both sound stupid to me though...so I think fits with him.

Also, I always hate pronunciation threads. Doesn't part of Square's site or something have a pronunciation key or some such? I thought I recall something like that...*shrugs*

I think the pronunciation for me is moreso out of habit.  After all, I first played through the game when I was ten, so my reading comprehension and capacity for phonetics was quite different then it is today.  Although "Sha-lah" seems more likely, "Ska-luh" has stayed with me.

Yeah, I think I was 11 when I first played CT, and I admit I pronounced it Ska-lah at first. I finally learned to pronounce it "correctly" when my older sister pronounced it Shaw-lah.

I pronounced Melchior Mel-choir at first too, heh.

I played the game when I was 11 or 12 so yeah I've always pronounced it that way. Shahlah sounds weird though. This reminds me of an argument I had with a kid I went to school with. His last name was Buttram. He always claimed it was pronounced Boot-rum, but I argued it would be pronounced Butt-ram.

Really?  Are they male or female?

I remember being at Church Camp long, long ago and meeting a kid names Cyrus... I thought it was legendary (this was post-Chrono Trigger, of course).
