Okay folks, so i haven't played Chrono Croos since 2001 and i don't remember all the details, but somehow i am absolutely not going with all the theories that seem to have appeared trying to explain what happens after the end.

Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross are the same story : the story of Magus, Janus, Serge, endlessly trying to retrieve his soul mate, sister, friend who appears as Schala or Kid. History can change, but not fate.

What happens after CC, after CT ?
Nobody is supposed to know and no programmer could ever tell you. Because this story hasn't been written yet : it's a matter of how you beat the gam, it's a matter of who travelled in which time or dimension. The story isn't real anymore : the changes in the time / dimensions affect the reality. So no matter how hard you try, you'll never get the point.

The programmers did not include CT characters in CC as a storyline event, but as references...

That's my understanding, and has been for years. I don't think i'll ever change my mind about it.
To me a lot of the people writing all these theories about Magus are looking for something that has been right in front of them from the beginning...

The "New" Ending of CT on Nintendo DS to me is just an attempt to link CT with CC but it shouldn't even be here. PLus it's sad, not very clear (does Chrono dies ?) and not in the CT spirit. Quite Pathetic to me.

Nevertheless, Kato himself oversaw the additional CT:DS content, didn't he? He's the main scenario designer, so he says what's what. Chrono Cross is apparently revised.

Magus is just about every one these days. I guess you could say that Magus's character arc may have served as a basis for Serge's, but I don't think so. They're definitely two different characters, in terms of physicality, but they aren't markedly different. Perhaps Magus's relation (not blood relation, more like the matter of his companionship) to Schala parallels Serge's to Kid's? I don't know. Like I said, people think Magus is everyone. Hell, he could be the Sage of Marbule for all I care, but until we get something definitive, it's all speculation.

Maybe if you flesh out this theory, we could get a better exchange of ideas goin'...right now, I'm a bit confused as well.

You can't completely refute in-game evidence like that. Kato oversaw the ending anime sequence, so it goes into the canon...

Unlike Magus, Serge got a happy ending like many same old storys...

Wait a minute, i never said the new ending in CT is not legitimate, it actually is because it shows that magus never finds Schala. But also, chrono seems to die, which i don't like. This ending would never have existed without Chrono cross, so it's a modification of tthe original game. Did Leonard Da Vinci modified his paintings 15 years later ?

Anyway, Utunnel you got it wrong i think. I don't think serge will ever find kid. And i do think he is a physical incarnation of Magus in another world / time / dimension.

Well, if what Shala said was true that he lost his memory(which is dubious), there's no need for him to find.

So she had such bad luck with other men, that she came back for someone who didn't even remember her, got him drunk and married him? Interesting. Also works against Magus==Serge. I highly doubt Magus would be the type to get drunk and marry his sister/sister's-daughter-clone-thing.

The one who wrote the journal in the CG might be from another dimension.
And it seems they intended not to show the guy's face in the photo(although in the Missing Piece art, he's Serge) to make everything blurred.

Well the thing with the DS ending is it is sort of like the director's cut. We know that Kato originally intended for Guile to be Magus, but as the game was developing he was cut out and left on the editing room floor (well, not even that far along). Now, Kato had a chance to go back and tell us what happened to Magus a little. Maybe he lost his memory and never plays a role again. But this could also be a way to link him up with Guile (there is already a connection there; just not having a memory could match them up nicely indeed if CC gets re-released).

Magus is just about every one these days.

Well I know I'm Magus, and I'm fairly sure Boo is Magus; wouldn't you like to be a Magus too?
