Emulation
« on: March 06, 2009, 01:28:31 am »
What's your emulation setup? What emulators do you use and what roms do you usually play?

Im currently using ePSXe with Chrono Cross, but I also have Visualboy Advanced, BGB, Snes9x, and I usually only play Pokemon or Chrono Trigger/Cross. Nothing else ever interested me.

I always use pSX (psxfin.exe) for PlayStation emulation. ePSXe gives you the option to use graphics filters, so from a user standpoint I guess that would be the emulator of choice, but from a hacker standpoint pSX is usually favored. It's kind of like the SNES9x vs. ZSNES dilemma.

Because we own a PS2, we rarely use emulation. It is a last resort for games we cannot find. I don't even know what we used, but it sucked.

I use a VisualBoy Advance for my GBA games. Those are usually ROM hacks or games I wouldn't spend money on.

As for SNES, zSNES is my friend. I use it for my Chrono Trigger, my Chrono Trigger ROM hacks, my Sailor Moon games (they're puzzle games! I LOVE PUZZLE GAMES!), my Magic Knight Rayearth game (daww... look at the wittle Hikaru!), and... that's about it.

I use pSX for Playstation emulation. I have both ZSNES and SNES9x, I generally prefer the later. For my Nintendo I have VirtualNES, which is pretty reliable. In the handhelds I just have VisualBoy Advanced. For my N64 games I use Project64, which I don't use to much save LOZ:OOT/MM. Last but not least at all I have Fusion which is an emulator for Sega SG-1000, SC-3000, Master System, GameGear, Sega MegaDrive/Genesis, Sega MegaCD/SegaCD, Sega 32X, Sega CD+32X, Sega Pico and Sega Virtua Processor.

I emulate NES and Sega games on my PSP (Mega Man on the move!), ZSNES on my laptop, both Project64 and nemu64 for N64, VBA for GB/C/A, epsxe for PSX games (although my PSP took over for that; portable Chrono Cross is sexilicous).

What I use for emulation:
For GBA: VBA -- Sword of Mana, FF remakes, TO:KoL and other RPGs;
For N64: Project 64 -- Zelda games;
For PSX: epsxe & pSX -- lots o' RPGs;
For PS2: pcx2 -- FFXII; and
For SNES: bsnes, snes9x & ZSNES -- RPGs (too many to list).

Hah, I half expected this to go nowhere.

If my internet wasn't a bitch I would have emulators and ROMs out the ass.

Do you literately need a list of games I play on emulators? If so, it'll take some time.

You act as though I wasn't awesome before this.

One time, we tried N64 emulation. It did not end well. When I was little and we had a Mac, we had a PC emulator. We played Roller Coaster Tycoon through that. Trust me, that actually works.

ePSXe actually works the best but it takes some plugin tweaking with most games, which can get annoying. pSX is much easier to use, but then again it can't run some games. My personal preference is ePSXe, however. There are a couple of games that gave me absolute hell to get to work properly. The one that comes to the forefront of my mind is Grandia. Oh, and Lunar 2. The audio on both games was rediculously screwed up until I got the settings right, which took forever.

At one point, we used PS emulation. I don't remember what we used, but we eventually got sick and tired of it. Tales of Destiny was what we were trying to do. The opening sequence was too fast, the audio was crap, and the battles were impossibly slow.

I'm fine with the PS emulation I have. However, I can't write the same for NDS emulation. It's too fast, even on the slowest speed possible! Although, the speed is the least of the problems.

I'm using NO$GBA by the way.

Really? I heard NO$GBA was decent for many DS games. I haven't tried it myself yet though.

I have tried DeSmuMe lately. In my opinion, it's better.
