Does Guile have a drinking problem?
« on: March 30, 2009, 07:27:10 pm »
I haven't played much of Chrono Cross, but I have played enough to see that whenever Guile is not with Serge, he's at the bar. All we really know about Guile is that he is in the Magic Guild, he's in his twenties, he comes from Zenan, and he likes mysteries. He seems to polite to be a drunkard, but unless the Magic Guild has a secret commune in the bar, there has to be some other reason for him to spend all his time there. Any thoughts?

セルジュ…、ふしぎな旅だったな。 俺はまた神秘を探すことにする。 また会えることを祈って,,杯をかかげよう…!
It was an interesting journey, Serge... I will set out in search of a new enigma. Let us toast, in hopes that our paths may cross again...!

He could have been talking about toasting fruit juice.  :D

Honestly, I always just figured he hung around the bar because he was searching for something, and a lot of travellers come through bars with stories of faraway places and adventure that could pique his interest.

That is, after all, how he managed to hook up with Serge and co. to get into Viper Manor.

I could have sworn Guile mentioned that there was a secret room in the bar--the one that you eventually meet Zoah and co. in--and I figured that's why he was there...He mentions how no fortress is impregnable and we know he has a thirst for the enigmatic, so it'd be in character for him to want to find this rumored hideaway.

Now, if he didn't mention that little secret room, then he's probably in the bar for the reasons eric just said. I mean, being in a bar doesn't make one drunkard--it's where all the cool people hang.

I thought the lady that owns the bar tells you about the secret room.
Also find it funny that he's alone in the back room with the barkeep after the bar was shut down. How did he convince her to let him stay? I can see Zoah and co. getting in, for the barkeep would want to support the Dragoons after Porre drove her customers away. But why let some random magician stay? Is he her best customer, or just that suave?

Still, there is something alluring about an amnesiac Magus turned drunken fruity magician. Too hilarious.

Magus as a drunkard. I can see it now.

Serge: Okay, I think you've had one too many.

Guile: Thank you Andre', I'll have the veal picata. *collapses*

I seem to remember hearing that Guile at least had a significant connection to alcohol, particularly those of the vine. I don't know if it was to the point of being alcoholic, but I think he is indeed a connoisseur of wine.

also,  :grimm this reminds me so much of my Ginsuke character. Seriously. It's the hair. the hair is near perfect.

For some reason I'm picturing Gary Oldman saying that line.  Is that from a movie?

Hmm incredibly powerful, awesome, and a drunkard?

Its obvious! Guile is not Magus he is Sam from Burn Notice.

Well bars/taverns are a traditional place to procure other things besides fermented grains and fruits.

Specifically, women.

I think this shirt sums him up:

Wait, so now he's a drunkard and a womanizer? Nice.
I think it'd be fun to see a drunk-Guile scene in some rom or story. Maybe he sets someone on fire while trying to do a trick. Drunk magicians never bode well for the people around them.
So he toasts to Serge at the end of the game. Did he carry around a special flask of whine just in case he ever happened to save the world?

He probably just likes his wine. I don't see him hanging over the bar with stacks of beer bottles. He's not a drunkard, but he likes his drink.  :grimm
