Does anyone know where Masa, Mune, and Doreen came from? They're not human, they don't seem like Mystics, and one says that they "Embody Melchoirs dreams", so did Melchoir somehow create them from a dream?

Possibly they are exactly what they said: they embody Melchoir's dreams.  They are the personification of Melchoir's unconcious, whether or not he knows it.

I'd guess that Masa and Mune symbolize his power, his work, possibly even his anger, while Doreen symbolizes his philosophical nature and leanings.  Remember how in the Millenial Fair and when he's reforging the Masamune, he talks about how he wishes that his weapons were not needed?

Here's a thought.

Melchior is the Guru of Life.  He created Masa, Mune and Doreen as part of the Masamune.

I've always held that Doreen is the 'spirit' (whatever you wish to call it) of the Pendant, where as Masa and Mune are, of course, part of the Masamune sword/Red knife.

I have likewise always looked at them as having always been part of the Dreamstone, but when forged into something, they came into being.

Also, I have never taken "they embody Melchoir's dreams" literally and do not think it is supposed to be taken as such.

I believe they have strong connections to the earth, as they come from Dreamstone, which is the powerhouse of the earth. I think they're simply part of the entity's grand scheme or at least in league with the entity...

I always jsut took "we embody melchoir's dreams" only as "we embody the dreams of his hard work", not that they reflect what he wants, per-se.

Reviving this for speculation. http://www.chronocompendium.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dream_Species is the target.

I thought that Masa and Mune and Doreen may have become physical beings from Melchior's dreams thanks to the Mammon Machine's power. Like Zeal said, it had the power to make dreams come true, even immortality.

And I wouldn't see how Masa and Mune were created for the Masamune when Melchior never even made the Masamune, but instead a red knife of Dreamstone, thinking that it'd destroy the Mammon Machine with equal power.

What I think is that Masa and Mune decided to go into the sword, for Melchior's sake or something.

It's unclear when they came about. If they were created after the Mammon Machine is active, they very well might embody Melchior's dreams for an end to the Mammon Era of Zeal, and the madness that it brought with it.

Does anyone know where Doreen is in CT, in 12000 BC?
Masa and Mune mention her, but I've yet to find her whereabouts.
Thanks!

She's in one of the smaller towns, the first one you visit in Zeal (Name eludes me.) You can talk to her, she says something philosophical, then teleports to somewhere else in the town.

It was Enhasa, and yeah, she did that quote on "I am a man dreaming that I am a butterfly, or am I the buttefly dreaming that I am a man? Do not think that what you see and feel is real" etc. And teleports around. Mune said something about Doreen liking it there because she likes dreams, but Mune said that he likes the wind etc.

Doreen obviously survived the fall, otherwise she wouldn't bein 1020AD.

Hmm, thanks!
I always liked the little convos between the 3 of them becuase they seem so knowledgable, and that was one of the things I liked when CT crossed over to Chrono Cross, they still had Masa, Mune, and Doreen as the omnicient commentators.

Masa, Mune, and Doreen embody the spirit of Melchinor.  They were created to make sure Melchinor's ideas could be carried on, even if he could not.

Ah, I support the theory of a Daniel Krispin. Masa, Mune and Doreen ARE the sword. The Masamune doesn't really take the form of a sword, it doesn't REALLY have a constant physical form. Rather, it takes the form of what the weidler wishes. If Cyrus wanted a kickass sword, it will become a kickass sword. If Serge wanted a weapon that will help him vanquish his foes, which he could weild, obviously, it would turn into a powerful Swallow.

When Masa and Mune form the sword, it is powerful. We all saw how strong it got after Glenn cured of guilt. But once we add Doreen to the formula we have one of THE strongest weapon in the Chrono World. Doreen means passion and dreams, and once you add it with Serge's passion to be allowed to be born into the world and eventually save Schala, you get a pretty powerful weapon.

The point is the Masamune consists of the weilder's power, wisdom and emotion. Doreen fell asleep, perhaps the fall of Zeal was such a shock to her (She is the emotional one) she went into a sort of coma. Once Serge cleansed the Masamune of malice, she woke up. Perhaps the guilt of all the evil they had done had been a greater shock, making her wish to guide her younger brethern?

Seeing as in the battle against Masamune to get the sword in CT the sword disappears as Masa and Mune emerge.  Once they are vanquished you see the sword in its true form.  That would mean only when Masa and Mune are not in the physical form the sword exists.  So Masa and Mune must be the sword.
