This thread remind me of these two Joel on Software articles:

http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/ThePerilsofJavaSchools.html
http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000319.html

I really find it funny that the guy thinks he knows everything because he knows Java

I never said I knew everything.  I just assumed that most of the people here knew as much as I do, and I wasn't exactly expecting the compendium to be full of people who knew so much more than I do because I really haven't come upon a group that did before.

I know high level languages because that is what I taught myself, and that is the style of languages that all of the computer science style classes that I've been in have used.  I knew there was more behind everything, I was never taught nor did I encounter anything related to lower level languages and machine language, so I never knew it.  MY BAD that I didn't know wtf a pointer was, or how exactly a computer runs.

And if you're going to call me a dumbass why don't you just say it to me rather than imply it in 3rd person?

Either he's a dick or he didn't mean any harm. Either way, doesn't look like he's around here too often. My advice - don't worry. I don't know that much programming stuff and I'm in a school that teaches programming specifically. <sarcasm>Whoo hoo for general ed, huh?</sarcasm>

Ignoring it is what I'm doing... now, that is.  I had to say something... =D
