Schala, a non-Lavos future.
« on: May 11, 2009, 05:54:44 am »
I was skimming through the game play around Crono's death when I noticed something I hadn't before.

Schala's last words given in the non-DS versions of the game include something to the effect "I will use the last of my pendant's power to send you to safety."  Afterwords, she falls to her knees, and mourns for Crono.  However, there's a nifty bit of a sparkle left behind in that scene, the remnants of Crono's possessions, presumably the pendant, left alongside Schala.

Well, if she's left with a near un-powered necklace, what if/why wouldn't she then just take the powered necklace and use it's powers to travel to safety.  Heck, with juice to spare, she could then send off the non-glowing necklace after Marle and company. (as seen to be not-sparkly in the remains of the Earthbound village post tidal wave)

Her necklace might have  had the power, but she herself might not have.

I was thinking along these lines that if Schala took Marle's powered pendant and left her old one behind it would solve the paradox of Kid having a pendant, but the pendant you have after the Ocean Palace thingy is Marle's pendant with the apparent ability to float out of there by itself.

I was assuming that Schala kept hers, Marle kept hers(which she was wearing when she was warped, so it was probably warped along with her) and Schala ended up giving her pendant to Kid after she cloned her.

Crono was wearing Marle's pendant for most of the game, the sparkle after he gets evaporated is thought to be the pendant leaving his body (don't bring up the animated cutscenes they are just ridiculous). She wasn't wearing it when she was warped, it found them later.

Quote from: the Game, yo!
ELDER: Oh, this must be yours.

Marle: My... pendant.
The one Crono held for me.

ELDER: Young lady, I found it on your
shoulder, almost as if it were
   guarding you.

It's much the same in the Japanese version, don't have a DS script around to check that.

[edit]Oh whoops

All the same, its not unreasonable to suspect that the pendant used in the game after the Ocean Palace Incident was Marle's rather than Schala's. As for how it found them, well, that itself remains a mystery.

Keeping with this theory, Schala probably kept hers before giving it to Kid. Maybe it was as a counter measure to keep it from being corrupted like the Masamune did.
