Hm, it'd be kinda cool to see this revived as a fanfic or webcomic. Are ideas for a shift in medium being tossed around?

I wish but you would miss out on somethings like Frog's other options that was shown on that demo on destructoid unless they have one of those pick & choose adventure style fanfics. I hope they can make this into a Wiiware game if a rom patch isn't possible when it's all said and done. It can be like that sequel to FF IV that they're putting out.

Didn't even know Crismon Echos is broken though I am not surprised.   Guess I'll have to do a burlgary on Squaresoft to steal the plans of all their games!

Anyways, as for the topic at hand, I'm glad it's been addressed finally. All of the stupid people saying, "Oh, I bet this will be leaked eventually because the beta testers have copies. *DERP DERP*" are stupid. No one that could have had a copy still stupidly has one on their computers. No one is willing to risk not only their own information getting out, but everyone else's because they (SE/lawyers/whatever) will have the right, if a leak were to ever happen, to request all or any of the admins IPs.

Eh, I guarantee one or two of the beta testers probably kept their copy. Even with the threat of lawsuit over their heads, I doubt someone who's been working on something for so long is just going to destroy it just like that. Look at how many people keep kiddy porn on their hard drives, which you can go down a whole hell of a lot harder for than for a simple rom hack.

Doesn't mean we'll ever see a leak of CE, though. Maybe in ten years when the heat's died down, we've all got white beards and two or three marbles rolling around in our heads, then one of them might let it out.

I'm sorry to anybody who has put their time and effort into a harmless piece of work called Crismon Echoes which I am sure you even have neglected your other favorite stuff.

Therefore you wind up  spanked by a company called Square who needs to learn their own priorites.  :(

I wish I knew programing or a way to find out how so I can make my own fan-project that's short.

You said it RySenkari!  Thank you.

Anybody who does hide a copy of CE should get praised for standing up to a goverment and big companies that love to strip your freedom.

Tis better to go to jail then to live a 'half-life' bowing to a corrupted government secretly wondering why you live.

I sound like a complete jerk now and also an asshole but one day you'll all thank me for that quote cause someday a member here will be "sued" for playing Chrono Trigger's theme on their 'Yamaha' keyboard when someone walking by their house hears it and reports to the police for copyright infrigment when the goverment goes  on a major crack-down on 'piracy'.  (including overseas)

By that time search warrents will likely be non existent and I'll be surprised if they still do exist.

Anybody who takes this as a big boo-hoo scare message needs a mental check on themselves also as I don't intend to scare anybody.

The problem is that no one here is prepared to throw their life away over a game (for good reason).

It's just a shame that Square is taking such a hardass stand on this, to the point that even if it's clear that Zeality and the other CE creators are totally blameless in any leak, that Square is ready to bring the hammer down. It's obvious that this hardass stance is what will probably end up preventing the game from being leaked at all.

I'm reminded of last night's episode of 24 in which Jack Bauer ran his ass off desperately trying to throw the biological weapon in the containment chamber. He got it in there just in time. Square is the Jack Bauer of this situation and it looks like they got the weapon in the chamber just in time. Only in this case we were all rooting for Jack Bauer/Square to lose.

It's funny... I want to play this game so bad, but I don't want to see the people who worked so hard on it get sued.

Square knew what they were doing, ensuring that anyone saying "I hope there's a leak" is basically saying "I hope Zeality and all those other guys get sued". I'm amazed they were able to put the clamps on so tight just three weeks from release.

Well for a beginner that doesn't know coding RPG Makerhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG_Maker is a decent place to start. I used to have the Playstation version.

If SE were to allow this mod to come out then I think fans would be extraordinarily grateful.  That would definitely be an extremely cool thing to do.  And it's not a complete sequel like Chrono Break, it's just a mod.

Trademark law basically says that if they don't defend their trademarks, they lose them (due to them becoming diluted in the public mind).  So I understand where they're coming from.

Why they didn't just talk to the people behind this (and more importantly, Chrono Resurrection) and offer up a small development support team to release a high quality product for a tenth of the cost of a from-scratch game but for nearly all the profit (they could pay the actual developers a pittance since they basically have no choice but to accept), I have no fucking clue.

Mostly because they're a Japanese company, I suspect - "better to ask forgiveness than get permission" is not that popular of a principle over there.

I begin to feel lucky that I was not one of the beta testers, or maybe I have already been a goner.
Well, stop kidding... I really missed a great thing. :picardno

As was mentioned, they are a Japanese company. Haggling with the US branch of their legal department isn't likely to get much personal attention from the folks actually in charge of the series. The best bet for an "official" license on the game is if they brand it an AU "gaiden" game. I doubt Kato would just up and accept it as a canon sequal though.

Why is Chrono Resurrection more important?

So you played Chrono Break, the complete sequel too, eh? How'd you like it? I thought MechaDalton was a bit over the top. And finding out that Wazuki/Lynx was also Crono's father? A bit on the predictable side.
