So Rapture turned out to be FFXIV.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363766

Development Staff
Producer: Hiromichi Tanaka (FINAL FANTASY I, II, III, XI)
Director: Nobuaki Komoto (FINAL FANTASY IX, XI)
Art Director: Akihiko Yoshida (Vagrant Story(R), FINAL FANTASY XII)
Music: Nobuo Uematsu of SMILE PLEASE (FINAL FANTASY series)

Holy shit. Everything about this game sounds awesome...apart from the fact that it's an MMO. Why did it have to be an MMO? :( I wonder who's writing the story...

---

The Front Mission games were made by Square Enix Production Team 6.

Okay, I guess Double Helix is a combination of two companyies...One of them did Marc Echo's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure *groan* while the other put out Earthworm Jim and MDK!! I still have no idea what that could mean for a 3rd Person Front Mission game...I'll stick with SE Armored Core for now...

One'll be a FF4 sequel for Wii, as mentioned on IGN.

That was previously announced. It was on the SE site for like a month and a half now. Its front mission/that classified game and something else.

SE are such sell-outs.

Look! FFXIV! Before we even finished XIII! Don't worry, because there will be an announcement for FFXV in the instruction booklet to Dragon Quest X!

Chrono what?

Sadly that's not the first time something like this happens. Back in 2000 Square had announced FFIX, X and XI all at the same time, completely out of the blue.

EXACTLY what we need, another friggin Final Fantasy game.  What's that now including spin-off's, 20+?  Jees, you think they would have milked it enough by 7 and then out comes 7 more games and a butt load more of spin-offs and other random sequels pertaining to other FF games.  This is getting ridiculously over done.

They're a corporation, the fan-base is huge, and apparently releasing new Final Fantasy games over and over again is a process that "works". I'm not sure why we're surprised about this announcement though: Rapture pretty much looked like a Final Fantasy from the start, we expected an announcement related to Rapture, and Final Fantasy is one of their most profitable series.

Honestly, this isn't too terrible: did anyone want Rapture to be the next Chrono game? And did anyone really think that the next Final Fantasy wouldn't be announced? Sure XIV is a bit much, but didn't we see this coming?

I don't see why everyone is being so pissy. FF is what kept the company alive. Why hate on it. Because of it we have the Chrono series. And it would be foolish not to talk about XVI. It's going to be 4 years before its release, it should be in development now! That way people don't have to wait 6 or 7 years until its release. XIII was announced a couple of months before the American release of XII. IX, X, and XI were all announced at the same time and its a good thing. Frankly with this being an MMO I hope they announce FFXV at TGS. So did you really think a Chrono Game would be announced? the best you could hope for would be a Cross remake soon.

IX, X and XI were probably all announced because they all had separate development teams. I too don't see why there would be hate for the FF series..."Sellout" is an especially overused term that really doesn't make sense at all..."OMG! They're putting out MORE things everyone's going to buy! Dang them and their big business logic! Just another example of THE MAN trying to give us more of what we WANT! What's up with that?" But I will end with...

ROW ROW, FIGHT THE POWER~!

Just for the sake of confusion.

... This is what the crimson echoes videos are for =D.

Anyway, I agree, make those announcements soon so we can see them soon rather than later.

I don't think XIV will take to long to make considering it will be an MMORPG.

Just another example of THE MAN trying to give us more of what we WANT!

Here's the thing, I don't want another action adventure game billed as an RPG. I want a fucking RPG.

Sadly there's really no decent RPG's that have many unique qualities left.  I think one of the very last RPG games that actually HAD some originality was Golden Sun.

You forgetting TWEWY(The World End with You), although it heavily based on pop/rap culture and Tokyo life, it has interesting and innovative gameplay that DS can achieved so far.I wonder if TWEWY's gameplay is compatible for Wii remote. That is it if you actually not accounting action based RPG as RPG like nightmare said.

I remember when Square announced FFIX, FFX, and FFXI all at once.  The initial spread had only one photo from each game: FFIX showed Zidane and friends at the crashed airship site in the forest, FFX showed Tidus at a temple, and I don't remember what it showed for FFXI... So the announcement of FFXIV doesn't really surprise me.
