Chrono Trigger Chat Thingy!
« on: June 06, 2009, 08:59:16 pm »
Well I've been thinking about this for a pretty long time now...
But today's the day I decided to see if it could become a reality.  :lee:
It's a Chrono Trigger Online Chat thingy...
I currently have no programming skills of any kind, but I thought I'd post it
and hopefully get positive feedback from a programmer that'd be willing to pull this off...
I'll help with ALL of the interface and graphics...
Well I made this beta image of what it MAY look like, so you guys
can have an idea of what I have in mind...
I think the best place to make this would be on Flash...

*EDIT*

Added additional interfaces, though I think the Maps one needs to change.

*EDIT*

Made the menu interface...

That's pretty sweet, but I am only a starter in programming (I took a visual basics class this year)

I think we had something like this going once. Not sure about it now.

The only problem I see is that we already have the IRC.

I'm no programmer, but this looks ingenious!   :D

That would be really cool!

Again, I'm not a programmer. The only thing I know how to program is ZZT. LOL

I would give it a shot to program, but I forget most of the class.

Idk, if you are interested just pm me.

Looks like a cool concept, but I don't know how many people would use it... Good luck, anyway!  I'd sure as heck try it out!

Reminds me of http://www.whirled.com, it a site that is very Flash heavy. It a site for about ages 12+ it a virtual chat room with rooms you design. I'm pretty sure its possible there.

GoldenSun-Syndicate had a very similar project called 'Golden Sun World'. Their alpha had little minigames (gambling), and you could buy balloons. It was dropped very quickly though, for lack of interest and because the franchise was apparently dead (so much for that!)
I think this project will be a whole lot better though, as there are more talented artists and coders here, not to mention more passionate fans!

So, how would the user choose their sprite/character? They could be assigned one randomly, or by choosing gender/age/fake occupation.. though I believe main characters (Crono Co) should be reserved for admins.

If you need help with making new maps or sprites, I'll lend a hand.

I love the idea of using a Chrono Trigger menu-themed interface for anything (work in the white glove hand, plz!) and still think it should be a layout for the Compendium (I remember having a Winamp skin with the theme)...This thing seems neat though I don't understand parts of it I guess and it seems like it would probably be a tough, big project, but the Compendium is SoY, so wtf, right?

Oh, and I may be wrong here, but Ema, I think you may be the first person to ever use one of the alternate Message icons (the lightbulb) for a thread...or at least it's the first I've noticed...>_>

I agree on that. People would be scrambling to get them, so reservations would be good. Since you should be prepared for high user counts, we need to come up with some more character sprites, palettes, etc.

If we used all the non main characters and enemies we probably would have enough sprites.

Even if we did run out, we could probably import other sprites of similar size from other games...There's a 16-Bit BM, right? :P

If the code isn't too difficult, you could set up a Ragnarok-esque system of customizing your character. Have set body and hair types that can be chosen from, then choose the colours. Since it isn't a ROM, spriters don't have to worry about the 12/15 colour limit (though it would be a good idea to stick to that limit so custom sprites don't look too out of place.)
