Bekkler-Zeal Connections Sprite Edit

I have always been struck by the similarity between Queen Zeal's transformed sprite and Norstein Bekkler's normal sprite.



Whether or not there is a connection is beyond me; that is a topic for the discussion forum, anyway. I took the liberty of editing the queen's sprite to fit Bekkler, just for fun...and also for my own fan-whims. I had done this once before, but I'd exceeded the palette limit. This has been remedied...



Thoughts? Criticisms? He's basically a floating mask. The green gloves were sort of a whim...I have room for, I believe, two more colors...if I wanted to make them, say, black. Took the green of his eyes (and gloves) from the Bekkler sprite...I was originally going to make the eyes blue.

Bekkler is some kind of magician and known by Belthasar...Possibly has some kind of immortality or some such...

Anyways, looks pretty good...Just missing the big red clown nose...and overall it's a bit oranger than Bekkler...>_>

I kinda agree with you, but I dunno where to fix it, maybe the nail perhaps ?

You know, the hand of Bekkler seem has no sleeve and just a hand gloves, but the Zeal one is on the opposite. And it need some look of 'clown' in it

I think Mr Bekkler has set of joke to be insert here.....

I bet he has some connections to the Magic Guild...He's able to create doppleganger dolls of the party (Sprigg connection?) and also for some reason has access to a crapload of cats (Sneff connection?)...

Maybe make the ring finger longer than the index? I forget if that means something or other, but distinguishing the two in any way might make it better...or maybe make the fingers themselves thicker...?

No really, Bekkler's sprite is a bit pinker. I don't particularly like pointing that out, but it's true.

Also, there's the clown nose.

And if you look closely, I guess there are arms in that sprite. They don't look long enough to just be arms, but if you compare it to any other sprite, the length is about right.


My biggest problem with what you've done: No smile. Even an evil smile would be perfect.

Norstein is probably my favorite character other than Frog/Glenn, and I just want to see him done right, right?

(On a side note, Katie, what you've done so far is really good. I like the crown removal on the forehead, for instance.

Yeah...I was wondering about the nose. I see it as sort of "The QZ sprite looks nothing like her boss sprite, so the NB one would also look different," but considering that Bekkler's normal sprite is just a smaller version of the big sprite...

As for him being too orange, pink faces are hard to do correctly, but I will try my best to fix that. He is, indeed, too orange.

That's a little harder to change than the other stuff, but I'll mess with them eventually. I'll update the sprite in stages...

Men tend to have longer ring fingers than index fingers, and the larger the difference, the more aggressive the man is. Something to do with testosterone.

They're not new poses...I just used a better sprite sheet. For some reason the Compendium doesn't have the full sheet on Zeal's page--it may have it elsewhere, but whatever. I got the Zeal i used for the edit from the Spriter's Resource.

Allright, see if you like these face/faric colors and nose better--also, I shortened the sleeves/gloves/cuffs to make them less sleevelike.

A note on those, by the way...I've always seen Bekkler's 'gloves' as being CUFFS, rather than full gloves, if that explains why I designed them the way I did. After all, in the sprite his hands are the same color as his face, so I assume they are uncovered, as aopposed to gloved.

I told you I was editing in stages...he has a smile in the first one; the second one is the face he makes if he's attacked. He wouldn't smile during an attack!

That is badass Kattie ! I take back my post, I should know Bekkler is 'glove-less' under your reason >.<

Now, if we could add some 'clown' look on Zeal, big red/orange nose and little red dot on Zeal's cheek

No, I prefer he evil laughing after attacking ! That is more badass.
