Downloading The CE Videos
« on: June 21, 2009, 04:14:09 am »
Is there any way to download these videos off youtube.  I want to have them so when squeenix finds and removes them I have my own copy.

pretty sure there are websites for ripping youtube vids off of youtube....

but not really sure where these sites are.

but yeah, you can ask the creators if they would bundle up the vids into a nice little zip...

As soon as I've got them all together (I need to do a proper credits reel still), I'll upload the videos somewhere, though logistics will be interesting -- they'll weigh in at about 9 gigs all together. Yum!

Ah, that's right, Windows Media Player doesn't like the audio on a lot of the videos. I kept the original video and audio streams, so I might want to take some more time out to reprocess them and make them more compatible with a variety of players. Also, MP4 files should be available.

Between AVI and MP4, anyone think one format is better to release in than the other?

MP4 always seemed of higher quality to me but I don't know the actual differences and all that I'm sure someone who knows all this stuff will fill you in. The walkthrough will come to about 9 gigs you say?

Also, you really think Squeenix will remove the videos off of youtube? Why? Its like making one LONG ass fan based video. If so, they really are being anal about keeping this under control.

keepvid.com is your best bet. Honestly though, I think there's only a small chance that SE will have 'em taken down...and it'll probably be all over the place by then.

Does windows media player play MP4?

Try VLC media player, it can play almost all file format of audio and video.
LINKY

You can try Orbit+Flashgot, a masterful dual to download any video from any streaming site.
It also a very good combination to download files from Firefox, I love those  :)

iTunes, QuickTime, RealPlayer, and Winamp do too, I believe. But use VLC, since it can play a load of file types.

MP4 files are a lot more space-efficient than AVI files, which is important when we're talking about gigabytes of video. I also tend to notice that they're higher in quality even despite being smaller.

For downloading YouTube vids and and songs I use Download Helper in Firefox:

Oh and don't MP4 work on iPods, Zunes, and PSPs? I suppose that if you wanna watch these vids on the go, then saving as MP4 might be the way to go...

I think I'll test out the .MP4 files in VLC and compare the quality. VLC can play MP4s, right? If I proceed with my original plan of reprocessing the audio to make the AVIs work in Windows Media Player, it'd take quite a bit longer.

So I don't know a whole lot about this stuff but if you have Divx installed then you can play AVIs in Windows Media Player.  Hope it helps.

I can help host the videos if you want, I just got a Virtual Private Server from linode.com that I have been messing around with, I can put them up there.

I can also make some DVD ISO images if that is still cool with you guys, I am even going to try adding subtitles of the YouTube annotations and such in there.
