I think Sajainta's pronunciation is the correct one if we asume "Luccia" is an italian name (like Lucca), the "cc" would read like "Ch" like in the word "fantocci".

Do you say "Lucca" as if it's an Italian name?

I always thought the name Lucca was taken from the name of the city of Lucca in Tuscany. But who knows, maybe not  :wink:

I've met a few people actually named Lucca, and it's pronounced 'LOO-kuh.'

That's how I pronounce her, alright.

Here's mah 2 cents:

Crono: Krow-No
Lucca: Loo-Ka
Marle: Mar-Ley
Schala: Sha-La (I hate pronouncing "Ska-La", 'cause it reminds me of reptile scales)
Ayla: Ai (Japanese for "Love")-La
Magus: May-Gus (although in the west, it's pronounced "Mah-Gus")
Melchoir: Mel-Kwah
Nu: Noo (I've got a friend with the name "Nooh")
Belthasar: Bell-Tha-Saar

Magus: May-Gus (although in the west, it's pronounced "Mah-Gus")

Really?  That's news to me.  Everyone I know who's played Chrono Trigger and lives in the west pronounces it May-Gus, including me.

Actually, I assumed that because I did hear quite a lot of western folks pronounce it Mah-Gus, but mostly in Zakyrus' dubbed version. Still, I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one who pronounces May-Gus.

The fact that May-Gus rhymes exactly with my boyfriend's last name has left me a bit biased on how I pronounce it, though.  And probably how he pronounces it too.  ;)

That's the way I do it  :P

Melchoir: Mel-Kwah
Belthasar: Bell-Tha-Saar

I pronounce:

Merlchior= "Mel-chor"
Gaspar= "Gaas-Paar"
Belthasar= "Buhl-tha-Saar"

Because that's the way I was taught to read the name of the Biblical Magi since I was a child, and always in that order :P

EDIT: Even better than phonetics: a children's song that mentions the names of the magi

I'm Mah-Gus all the way. Everyone I know in person (who knows what CT is) says it the same. I could care less if people say it differently. Same with Ayla, Marle

What bugs the hell out of me is the K sound that gets shoved into Schala's name. Ugh. And anything where Lucca is not "Luke, uh".

I pronounce Serge Surge. I don't have a problem with other pronunciations but I don't understand why people call him Sergio. That's not his name. IRL I have a friend named Jim. Not James. Jim. Says it on his birth certificate, license, etc. But people think they're clever and try to come up with nicknames and "James" inevitably gets thrown in there. He's never been James. Just like Serge has never been Sergio.

The name I go by is Addie in real life. It's an odd name for a male, and people mispronounce it ALL THE TIME. My upstairs neighbor has been calling me "Odd E" for about a year and I can't just correct him now. My license plate has a phonetically spelled version of my first name, which I blame for my neighbor's confusion. He's not reading it right. I've been called all kinds of names though. Abbie, Eddie, Andy, Allie, Daddie(that was a weird one), Paddy, Adding. My go-to explanation is "it's like Eddie but with an A".

I think nobody called him Sergio (in this thread, at least) I just commented on the name being an spanish equivalent to Serge. Most people here seem to pronounce his name as "Surge", except Thought who prefers the russian "Syer-GYAY".

I agree people shouldn't interchange "Serge" for "Sergio", because even if they are derivations of the same name, that's not his name in the game text. If we were to do that, then we could interchange  "Miguel" for "Michael" too...

Out of curiosity, how do you pronounce Schala? seems like the kind of name that could get different pronunciations.

I look at that as being very similar to the russian letter that looks like a W with a little tail on it, in the latin alphabet it's like "sh-ch" but less emphasis on the "ch" and no pause, so the "sh" kinda flows through the whole sound. It's basically a longer "Sshhallah" for me.

That's how I pronounce her name, with that "sh-ch" mix. A similar thing happens when I pronounce Belthasar's; I end up with some kind of "s-z" mix.

Ad, Add, Addie!  :D

Hah, Serge as "Suhrj" and Schala as "Sha-la" is fine with me (it's awesome when you make the C silent).

As for Miguel, if you've seen Road to Eldorado, you know how it sounds. "Mi-Gael".

As for Miguel, if you've seen Road to Eldorado, you know how it sounds. "Mi-Gael".

Or you can know four or five people who are named Miguel and pronounce it how they do, which is Mi-gel (hard g) or sometimes Mi-gwell (also hard g).
