I think the obvious answer here is "die."  I mean, it's Lavos.  Unless you had access to some kind of underground bunker and could get there very quickly, you'd be killed by the RAINING FIRE FROM THE HEAVENS.

Do we actually know what happened on the day Lavos awoke?  I assume he had to launch fire for quite some time to actually destroy the world.

The only thing that's ever shown is fire raining from the heavens and explosions taking place.

I presume it just rained fire for a while, and afterwards Lavos moved to Death Peak, corrupting nature and rotting the planet away to what we see in 2300 AD.

As for my answer; if Lavos would come out of the ground, it would mean that the bounds of reality have been broken, because Lavos isn't real. With the bounds of reality broken, I could just imagine a Epoch in my mind and make it real. Then I would take it and fly to the End of Time, in hopes that there are some heroes waiting there who I can recruit on my quest to destroy Lavos.

i think what happened was the fire and all that that rained from the heavens, not only destroying the life below, blocked out the sun. fire has been shown to actually promote plant growth in some instances, so for all we know after destruction rained from the heavens plants could have overtaken the world.
thats obviously not the case.
instead, the sun is blocked out. plants cant grow, food cant grow, and the people are barely getting by.

Yes, that's more in line with my thinking.  The fire seemed to cause mostly superficial damage.  Actually, the earthquake was probably the most immediately devastating effect of Lavos' rise to the surface.

Although Lavos' most powerful attack from within his shell is to rain fire from the heavens, it alone would not be enough to kill everything on the planet.  Hell, depending on your playthrough, it doesn't even kill Crono and co.

Although, on that note, I always thought it made the most logistical sense for them to crash the epoch into Lavos and thus skip that fight entirely.  It's the ending I consider canon.

6. i meet a guy that says Hes power level is over 9000 and goes out there thinking i was lying about that guy and he gets owned

Create a time machine and hopefully get some travelers who wish to help save the world....or I'll build a time machine and let the people who'll destroy Lavos in the future when the time is right. Or they could just find me. Anyways, I'll be all "Well this sure isn't our day" once it launches its laser barrage that rains own from the heavens across the planet. Also, there wouldn't be wars which would be great, however there would be famine which would suck. Wait, don't those Norwegians have those doomsday seeds up in some underground vault just to help fertilize the earth again if something happens? Unless, the electricity burns out and the seeds start to rot....oh dear. Find a way to survive and create domes and find survivors.

But how would you have enough time to do that, it would be impossible to do that in a few secounds

I would roast some marshmallows, maybe grab a few friends and argue about who gets to cosplay which character, and end up having two shitty frogs (instead of one frog and a passable crono), one girl with a horrible lucca wig (cause she's never heard of hair dye) and another dude playing marle (cause in this scenario i have a single female friend and she prefers lucca).

Then we'd walk all the way around the lavos and try to get some sweet SWAG!!! Then we'd eat pocky, emanate our odors, and hang our swagbags on his spikes.

It would be hirarious.
