RMXP makes for a better choice, VX not so much because of small sprite size and tile limits, and 2003 because of tile limits.

I like 2003. I like the default battle system and working with the restrictions. Without restriction, there is no creativity.

Plus there are a lot of editable resources readily available. Same reason I'm not making an entirely new game with C++ or some other high-level language. It's the right mix of feasible, practical, and powerful. I don't want to follow the fate of Chrono Crisis. This game will be released.

To be honest, I'm rather stuck on C++, which is why I haven't done anything yet. I've been absorbed in one of my favorite childhood games that came a year before CT.

Thanks, you mention SoM, and know I really wanna play Secret of Evermore. There was something about that game that I found far superior, for some reason. I can at least say that I loved the soundtrack.

I do like the concept of Frog becoming Glenn, I also like the idea of having some of the game featuring Cyrus. It'd kind of be a Zack Fair a la Crisis Core kind of deal (cause we all know he dies) but it might be an interesting concept. :)
It's strange since about a year ago I too said the exact same thing!  :o They're so goddamned alike, and heroic, AND dead. But cancelling the latter bit, it'd be awesome to make a great story specifically for it. Think about it: It took Crono and co to beat Masamune with MAGIC and earn the sword, whereas Cyrus did it without the need of magic, and on his own. See where I'm going with this?

Hah, if you guys like the idea of Cyrus, I'll happily contribute to that story (once I get the hell out of the institute, that is).

Hehe yeah, I'm playing D2X-XL. Apparently Descent 1 and 2 were open sourced before Parallax closed, and this German guy's been working for almost a decade on it adding new graphics, new features, etc ^^

I think I've helped generate CS, CA, and PtaD some publicity. One of my friends runs Pumo Software, which designs RPG Maker games/addons, 2D and 3D art, and Descent 1/2/3 addons/missions. A few people seem to have jumped on the Overture bandwagon and they find all 3 games quite intriguing.
