I've seen a lot of articles about the tactic, and many people metioned they are interrupted by the boss before the 6-element chain is complete.
However, I find myself never missed the chain. So I'll explain it in my own way.
- Frist of all, the boss follows the basic rule, which means it can't move if certain condition is not met. This is determined by its action points. For TimeDevourer, it has a value of 10.
What does it mean?
When it performs an action, a countdown will be reset. Before it reaches 0, the enemy can't move. The countdown is based on its action points, but will also have some random change. So for TimeDevourer, it can be either 10 or any values between 10 and 14.
When does this value go down?
If a PC attacks, it goes down. For a weak attack, -1, a medium attack, -2 and a heavy attack -3.
If a PC uses an element, it goes down by 1.
If a PC defends, it goes down by 1.
- If none of your PCs can move, the enemy will attack and the countdown will be restarted.
For example, stamina is less than 1.
- If all PC that can move defend, the enemy will attack and the countdown will be restarted.
- For TimeDevourer, if you do the 6-element chain correctly, it will perform an empty move.
That means the countdown is restarted, but TD does nothing.
The last rule is the key to this trick. Just don't let them defend just in case condition 3 is triggered.
So the most common solution:
1. Attack to build up all element levels to a proper high value.
2. All defend. Boss will attack and its countdown will be maximized, and all our PCs will have max stamina.
3. Perform the chain. You will see TD does nothing when all your PCs are supported to have run out of stamina.
4. Attack it if necessary (for example, you put CC in lv8 grid), and use CC.
