As far as I know Lance, they haven't.  I'm not a part or big follower of the FF community but there are TONS of their games up on romhacking.net

I know there was a hack for FF6 that enabled you to create your own bosses. Also there were lots of hack for the PC version of FFVII and VIII (Having Seifer and Aeris in your party all the time).

But I don't think there has ever been a new, entire game like CT:CC (and as ambitious) for a FF (beside some mediocre RPG Maker games).

Ironically, Rm2k3 was based on the FF5/6 engine.

For CT:CE? I doubt it. I don't think the CT:CE would cancel the game if they thought it was fake.

Oh, I think utunnels might be referring to Dark Serge. That's a whole other can of worms, but in the end Square Enix had to make the decision to issue a C&D one way or the other.

There was a third Chrono fangame that got C&D'd as I recall. The Chrono Trigger Remake Project.

There's one guy that completed a very impressive 3D Final Fantasy VII fangame and it even got attention in a fairly high profile gaming site, but I'm hesitant to even say anything about it 'cause I worry there's a high risk of SE Legal sending Agent Smith after him, if they knew.

This is just a random question, but why is there no FB group dedicated to CE? Not that this could do that much, but it would at least go along with the Youtube Memorial.

I think since people actually want a remake and/or sequel to the Chrono series that these fanmade tribute games tend to get more exposure...

I believe there is a Facebook group already, ShoeMagus. A search on "Crimson Echoes" on FB should turn it up. It was probably established in late May or early June 2009.
