Just a stupid doubt

I was wondering if not talking to Melchior at the beginning of the game influence on being not guilty at the trial. I mean, I know that if you speak to him you have to refuse to give him Marleīs pendant. However, if you donīt speak to him, are you going to be not guilty?

I know that on numerous occasions I've had literally all not guilty's. The only time I talked to Melchior is  after you get back from 600 AD. whether it's a requirement is another story.
