Wiki and Forum Integration Update

The wiki that powers the Encyclopedia and majority of the site's content is now integrated with the forum's authentication system. Admins and users who are members of the Wiki Users group can now use their forum login session to gain edit access to the site's wiki, however, those users who had previously used MediaWiki login credentials will need to be added to the Wiki Users group. Please contact an administrator or reply to this news post if you need help.

Also, I'm looking for volunteers interested in managing or writing content such as fan fiction submissions, fan project summaries, fan artist profiles and galleries, and interviews. News writers, fanartists fanfic authors looking to promote their works, and fan project leaders may also be interested in the proposal to create a user-submitted news section in the forums.

Really, thanks a lot for helping out. You just have to find good fanart and fanfiction for the site, contact the artists or writers, get permission, and then place their work on the site.

You can mess around with that for practice (you might have to try logging in through the Encyclopedia first). Consider it your page now. Same thing for the fanfiction page.

Also, I was thinking of splitting the fanart page up into a separate page for each artist like this:

But then, just having a long list of artist names on the fanart page would make it harder to just look around and browse, so I'm not sure what to do with it all, myself. Still, it'd be nice to do something with the FanArt page so that it isn't just a massive page of thumbnails.

Feel free to try anything you want. Remember that anything you do can just be rolled back since it's all version controlled, so don't be afraid to try something.

I'm certainly interested in promoting my fan-fiction work, but know absolutely nothing about running a website - and don't really have the time since most of my free time is spent writing my novel.  I would be gratified if someone with the knowhow could bring a lot more attention to the fan-fiction produced by the community.  Right now the buzz is a bit lacking.

I've often thought that the Compendium might benefit from adding a comprehensive index of Chrono-series fanfiction found elseweb--not hosting it, necessarily, but just linking to it and possibly reviewing it--but I've been reluctant to mention it because I don't think I have the time or energy to take on the project myself and give it the degree of attention that it deserves (glancing at a fic and determining that it stinks on ice doesn't usually take very long, but evaluating something that's good enough that someone might actually want to read it takes longer...)

Nevertheless, you could elect candidates for inclusion on the site or as part of a link collection, and others could help rate and categorize everything. If you're afraid of adding a lot of links to the Fan Fiction page that you'd then have to weed out, just nominate stuff on the Discussion page for the Fanfiction page like so:

Using a wiki is no harder than using a message board. Some of the special markup is different, but it's fairly straightforward. I've given you access to the Wiki so you can try it out. You can practice by using your own user page as a sandbox:

Javascript gets stripped out of the wiki for security purposes, but I'd definitely love to see your game engine on the site and available for members to use to make and share their own games.

I'm working on a Remix upload/browsing portion of the site that I should be done with in a few days, but I can work with your engine to make something that allows users to edit and contribute their own custom games to the site as well as browse and view others. I already have an idea of how to go about doing it to.

When the time comes, I'll also give you FTP access to the where we'll put the Javascript file for this project so you can make updates.

There's no need to even touch the MySQL database. We just verify against SMF's accounts using their SSI include API then store the user saves inside a small sqlite file database tied to the script if the person's logged in.

I'm actually using a small sqlite database to store the Remix track information in.

It doesn't even have to know anything except where to find SMF's SSI.php file. The game scripts and save data can then just be stored in a small sqlite database.

I guess, the hardest part is the name. Just what do we call your game engine?

Hmm, it is not really a game engine, more like a script interpreter (square made the script, demiforce dumped the script, translated it and converted it into human-readable text, and I wrote an interpreter using javascript).

Perhaps, Radical Novel is OK, I'm really bad at making a name.
