The first ever embedded Youtube! music playlist thread!
« on: January 04, 2011, 07:08:40 pm »
This is a simple thread to participate in. All you have to do is post a single youtube video of a song that is somehow related to the song posted by person above you. To post a video, just take the hash that comes after the v= part of the URL.

For example,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq8QAdY4tbs

has a hash of "Rq8QAdY4tbs". Just surround this with the youtube bbcode tags I've added to the forums and it'll appear in your post.

So without further ado, let me get things started:

The first thing that came into my mind when I heard song was "Classic Rock" --  my boss loves that kind. Something like Beatles, Eagles and... Santana.

Holy Santana! +1 for Chad too!

P.S.: Couldn't find the Youtube BBcode in the post toolbox, so I simply copy-pasted from your post.  :D

When I think Santana I think guitar, when I think guitar I think Shawn Lane

"Shawn Lane," the name and the look of the guy, made me think of Shane MacGowan, that Irish rapscallion whose pissed performances and deliberate deviations you'd think ought to blow black pudding but somehow manage to burn a real spot of artistic endearment in my heart. Here he is singing the Neil Diamond classic, "Cracklin' Rosie":

Trivia: "Cracklin'" Rosie herself, that "store bought woman" and "poor man's lady," personifies rosé, the wine--a fitting Shane MacGowan kind of a song.

Bonus video (not for the purpose of informing the next person's video choices), here he is doing a great version of "The Minstrel Boy":

Something about his rough, Irish voice quality goes well with electric guitars. Stick it in something a bit faster and more upbeat with a violin in the background and you'd have Celtic punk.

More rough voices that make for good music. This is Modest Mouse, who take a lot of flack for not being "indie enough" for their fans yet "too indie" for mainstream in general. But screw it. I like em. This video in particular, is quite potent and salty. Heh.

Speaking of somewhat Indie bands, Beck has been a huge favorite of mine for quite a while now.

Something I really like about this band is the huge number of remixes of their songs: this is one of my absolute favorites due to being awesome.

Beck did music for Scott Pilgrim's band. They made a game out of Scott Pilgrim, but did not use Beck's music. The soundtrack is flippin great anyway, and the trailer has a neat song, thus, it's related.

So, we're talking about soundtracks now, are we?

EDIT: Sorry, I can't seem to get the movie thing to work. It's the music from Soul Reaver when you fight Melchiah.

You have to use the youtube bbcode, not the flash bbcode. There's no toolbar option for it yet.

Hope this works... What a beautiful theme. Currently re-playing FFVIII for the first time since 1998 and LOVING it. What a great game; I didn't like it the first time through, and this time it's resonating somewhere deep within me. The Laguna storyline in particular makes me want to shout because it's so close to home (at least on an emotional level).

Edited: to make the video work properly (thanks Bekkler)

Quote this and you'll see how it works, Boo.

where the part that goes between the brackets comes after the = sign in youtube's URL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW6GJIdznVM

Hope that helps!

Thanks Bekkler! I love Cursive... But believe it or not, that song is half of where my name came from!

In college my neighbor Emerald would always call me "Boo" as a term of endearment. Back in high school when I first discovered Cursive I heard "A Gentleman Caller" and didn't know what a gentleman caller actually was. So I looked it up and was fascinated with the concept. So when it came time for me to create a user name, I combined the two to create my forum name. Tadah!
