I was in a classroom when I saw it, and students admittedly have the knack to make almost anything seem funny. That may have influenced my perception.

PsychoFantastic movie.  I still can't believe they made a remake of it.

Never saw it! I laughed my ass off so hard with The Birds that I decided Hitchcock's brand of horror was too "period" for me. On the other hand, his television show episode "Man from the South" was the most suspenseful thing I have ever watched, to this day. To summarize:

Hitchcock horror: hilarious!
Hitchcock suspense: nail-bitingly tense!

=D

Suspense is what it's all about.

Watch Rope.

Does Fantasia count? I rewatched that recently and for all of its silliness, that stuff is intense.

Also, seconding Dr. Strangelove. I saw that movie about a year ago and it is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

I should hope so!  I adore that movie.  So beautiful and creative.

Sleeping Beauty, Disney and whatnot. One theory I have is that Maleficent is a lesbian and since she wasn't considered respectable enough to be at Aurora's birth and told to never come again, she basically said, "If I'm never going to have her, no one will," or whatever, and then placed her little curse.

Too bad it didn't work.

Time to dust off the ol' dot dot dot machine.

Ah, that's the stuff. I love you, ellipsis.

Maybe Maleficent wasn't considered respectable enough to be there because she was friggin' maleficent!

I don't know about Maleficent. Yes, she's an awesome Disney villain, but IMHO, I find her to be highly overrated. She has minions that couldn't follow a simple order, and when she caught Prince Phillip, she didn't finish him off; she just dangles the proverbial carrot in front of him and snatches it away.

To me, the best Disney villains engaged in what I believe the best trait a villain can obtain: psychological warfare. Lady Tremaine and Mother Goethel are perfect examples of this type of villainy. They are, as deep as my knowledge of everything Disney is, the most effective of the Disney villains.

I don't think that she was disrespected for being homosexual, just for being a demon-fairy-thing. Little quirks are always fun for fans to add. :)

Also, Frollo's the freaking scariest out of all of the Disney villains. It's not often you see one of them that's willing to burn a city down. I don't think having Tony Jay do the voiceover helped that much, but it's mostly how real he seems compared to someone like Jafar or Grimhilde.

The best Disney villain I think is Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame.  Extremely racist, murderous, evil, and an uber-religious asshole.

But that was made in 1996, so it's definitely not an old movie.

Edit::  Dammit, I was going to post my comment about five hours ago, but Manly Man beat me to it.  >__<  But I totally agree, although I thought his voice actor was very appropriate.  So supercilious and sinister.

Yay Fantasia. When I watched it again, with Disney's commentary, it was pretty clear to me that this was a bold attempt at his to create something that was unquestionably art, irrespective of market potential (though he wanted to create many more Fantasias, apparently). He certainly succeeded, dancing hippos and ostriches included.

Maleficent as a pedophilic lesbian makes that argument somewhat less interesting, ha. She is definitely something of a lackluster villain for most of the movie, but the dragon scene overshadows that because it's so brilliantly animated, I think.

(Personally, I prefer Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, with Cabrosse as an evil faerie -- she's much more playfully wicked.)

Hell yeah, Frollo is scary! I remember listening to "Hellfire" way back in the day and being like "wait... what... this is really epic and frightening and... why are you letting me watch this, mom? He's talking about raping and killing her... >_>"

What was more scary than Frollo in my opinion, was when I first learned the meaning of the phrase 'Disneyfication'.

I saw the Hunchback movie first...

...and a couple years later got my hands on the book.

My first thought: You lie, Disney! You lie!! :?

Anyway, obviously you've heard of it, but most of you guys probably haven't seen Citizen Kane, it is often referred to as "like, the best movie evar" by critics, and with good reason: Orson 'The Brain' Wells.

Orson 'The Brain' Wells.

Accompanied by Gregg Toland and his brilliant visual technics and compositions. Anyone studying visual composition should check out the work of this guy, seriously.
