Nadia's Bell in 3D
« on: September 12, 2011, 07:53:12 am »
Hello,

I modelled Nadia's Bell in 3DsMax. It's far from perfect, and the bell used to look better, but the reflections don't work very well with skylight.

Anyway I'm not very good at modelling. I just did this since I was bored and I wanted to do it. The only reason I managed to pull this off is because it's so square. Also it could probably never be used in a game, since this bastard is a whopping 17,000+ polygons. Why so much? Because I didn't care about using it in a game, and I wanted it to look as good as possible.

Well, here it is:

I might do a short animation of the bell swinging, or something.

That's pretty good!  I would definitely not say you aren't very good at modeling--it looks like you're quite talented.  The bell could be improved, but the marble effect on the archway is gorgeous.

I hope that emoticon explains how awesome that model is, as a picture is worth a thousand words. It is, in short, "Pretty good!" I once made a similar model for a side-project, though yours looks superior in that regard since it is high-res. Although the bell could be improved (use curves/NURBS; it's easier to edit). Here's a good reference:

Now allow me to politely contemplate on what you said just now.

*ahem*

WTF, OVER 17,000+ POLYGONS!!
