I don't really want to get into whether or not the war was already taking place before Janus arrives at Truce Canyon.   I'd just like the comment back on the statue in Magus' Castle.

If the castle truly is ancient
...and if Magus is just a title for the leader/idol of the "mystics"
...then perhaps that statue with the 4 arms holding 2 flames is just a statue made out of reverance for a very powerful "Magus" of the past.  And it could have possibly held very strong magical powers since it was created by a magic-using race, which might be why Janus used the room to summon Lavos.

OR

Janus thought it was a sweet room with a cool statue.

I like the idea about having a previous "Magus" but I don't think he'd be called Magus, Magus is a symbolic resemblence to Janus.

The room itself would have the be determined by how old the castle is. It could have been a summoning spot to old Mystics or a meeting place. Or the statue is just a simple statue, used by Magus to be the summoning spot for Lavos.

Hey, maybe the statue was just there, and has nothing to do with the summoning?

I just thought that it makes more sense w/Magus' Japanese name, Maou, which means, you guessed it (or probably you just knew previously), DEMON KING!!! Dun dun dun.

Wait, what? What do you mean...That's sarcasm I'm detecting, but I don't...know...it's reason...

I just meant it makes more sense that the statue is some kind of demony demon...thing...with Magus having the name Demon King. Or w/e...

Probably another Japanese pun, like Janus being Jaki= Bad Energy.

oh well see it that way, when Janus says "one among you will shortly perish", you said "OMG WHY!" but if the little guy was called Jacky and would have siad that you would have pat him on the head and told him to play with his G.I. Joe, and when Cerono would have died, you would have a better surprise if Janus was in fact called Jacky

Cerono? Where does that come from? The two origins of the word lie either in Κρονος or in Χρονος, being thus either anglisized as Kronos (thence Krono and Crono, using that accursed 'c'), or Khrono thence Chrono (again using the accursed 'c'.) - of which the former is the proper name of the ancient Titan, from whose name stems words denoting a thing past or complete, and the latter denoting time. I'm guessing you were writing it so because that is the way it sounds when the Japanese say it... but keep in mind they do say it wrong, you know, even as most English cannot say a name like Bach aright. They also cannot say Final Fantasy right.

Mmh maybe he just did a typo. The "e" button is just left of the "r" so...
