Millennial Fair Re-Created in VALVe's Source Engine
« on: August 12, 2012, 01:54:48 pm »

Hi, everyone! I'm sorry to say I'm not a regular member, but I'd like to share with all the Chrono fans a project I've been hard at work on and publicly released today. I'm a modder and an aspiring game-designer, experienced working with VALVe's Source Engine. Back in 2010, starmen.net held their first "Chrono Trigger FanFest" and I kicked out the early build of the map in under 2 weeks to submit for their fanart contests. These recent months, I've picked up the project again. I'm finally content to release it to the fans of this wonderful series. Its most easily played on Garry's Mod. If you own GMod, please give it a try, and if you don't... well this could be a great way to spend that $10 burning a hole in your pocket! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. : D

I remember seeing this back in 2010. It's obviously come along nicely since then.

Looks great! If only there were more (and a Chrono game to go with it)!!!

You're welcome! I was really confused to see my post when I came back to visit today. At first I thought it saved my last viewed page on the forums, then suddenly realized I was looking at the front page! Thanks a lot for the news spot! I'm happy its in the hands of the fans and can't wait to see what people do with it.

@Boo
I plan on tweaking the map later and releasing a second version as the "Moonlight Parade", so you can rest assured more content will be on the way. Viper Manor is a locale I've wanted to re-create for a long time. It may not see public release anytime soon, but you can look forward to that someday.

I love you.

XD

This is awesome! Totally buying GMod just for this! It's come along nicely since 2010! I love the detail and the trees are beautiful. I also like that you can see Guardia Castle in the distance and in the new trailer the seagulls fly by. It's amazing! I wants it nowww! (patiently waits for paycheck)

Oh yes Moonlight Parade! And Viper Manor would be amazing. No worries, we Chrono fans are a patient lot.

If anyone is interested in using this map outside of Garry's Mod, the format is documented here:

Ramsus makes a good point. The map uses nearly all custom content, aside from 3 textures that come with all source games, so it can be played on nearly any game built on the Source Engine. If you're eager to try it but don't want to spend a penny, Team Fortress 2 is Free-2-Play and supports the map. The player start locations weren't meant for TF2 so if you do happen to go that route, just know you'll need to use cheats to fly out of the start area and into the actual fairgrounds.

I know I posted here already saying I think it's cool but I had to add that it's inspiring, the commitment to detail is commendable and make me believe that a Chrono themed full game source mod is possible.

That was simply beautiful.

I wept - yes it invoked great emotion to see CT come to life in 3D (again)

Nicely done  :D
