The Entity, named by the party during the Fiona's Forest Sidequest, is the mysterious being behind the quest to save the world. The Entity is in truth the planet itself. According to their speculation, this Entity is reliving the unpleasant memories of its past, which results in the creation of the Gates to certain eras. Lavos is said to figure hugely in the life of this being. After this meeting adjourns and the members go to sleep, Lucca awakes to find a mysterious, Red Gate in the forest. This allows her the opportunity to prevent Lara from losing her legs in 990 A.D., which can be interpreted as assistance from the Entity. At the Moonlight Parade, Lucca mentions that the Entity is probably at rest now that Lavos is defeated. Beyond these tidbits, no other mention of the Entity is offered. The planet is nearly without a doubt viewing the turbulent times of its past in which Lavos disrupted its life. It is most certainly not the player. While this classification may seem appealing at first, since the player is controlling the party's actions, one must ask him or herself: did I program the Gates into the game?

Gaspar's last line in the original—"This is a battle between the planet and Lavos!"— is much more specific than the use of "the world" in the NA version, and considering the use of the word planet elsewhere in the Chrono series, this line confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that the planet is the Entity. Some speculate that the Entity isn't the individual planet, but an amalgation of the dreams and life forces of all its inhabitants, similar to the Gaia Hypothesis or the Lifestream of Final Fantasy VII. It's also worth noting that the rotation of the planet shown in Chrono Trigger suggests the sun rises from the west.

Chrono Cross[edit]

The planet is also said to have a dream (in the last chapter of the Japanese Chrono Trigger game's save title and in Chrono Cross), and can also act. It pulled Dinopolis to the Keystone Dimension after Chronopolis traveled back through time due to the Time Crash. Chrono Cross completely seals the Entity's identity with referencing to the planet's dream, even in past-tense in a tagline on this lighter:

The planet as seen in Chrono Cross seems to be a rough outline of El Nido mapped over a sphere. This means the continental layout shown cannot be taken as canon for geography. See the "El Nido / Planet Comparison" image below in the media section.

Theory and Analysis[edit]

Japanese Equivalent[edit]

The Entity was not given a formal name in the original game, but was rather referred to as dareka (someone).
