Serge's very existence is a veritable study in contradictions -- this is the basis for much of the philosophical discourse in Chrono Cross. Born to [[Marge]] and [[Wazuki]] of the fishing village of [[Arni]] in the [[El Nido Archipelago]], Serge had a storied history with the world since before he knew how to write. The contact healed him and designated him as its Arbiter, or controller. This is what caused the [[Frozen Flame]] to be unusable by the supercomputer [[FATE]]. The computer, as well as [[Chronopolis]], the military base built to house it, had been thrown back in time from the year [[2400 A.D.]] in a failed experiment and in fact was responsible for terraforming El Nido, a process beginning in roughly [[9600 B.C.]] Due to its obviously advanced technology, it had no problem binding both [[Miguel]], a friend of Serge's father, and eventually [[Wazuki]] himself into cruel servitude under [[FATE]]. Four years later, Serge had a literally life-changing experience by almost drowning. By the fact of his key place in the survival of humanity and thus the eventual construction of [[FATE]], his chances of survival were exactly fifty-fifty. However, his survival would ensure contact with the [[Frozen Flame]] and would lead to its subsequent reacquisition by its original owner -- none other than [[Lavos]]. This would allow [[Lavos]] to put the absolute ruin of the Earth into effect again, which would prevent [[FATE]] from being built and creating these conditions in the first place. Thus, a spectacularly large time paradox ensued, resulting in the [[Keystone Timeline]]'s split between [[Home World]] and [[Another World]]. The cosmic interference of [[Schala]] and [[Belthasar]] did not help -- it caused [[Home World]]'s version of the [[Sea of Eden]] to morph into the [[Dead Sea]], where a terrible image of the death of the world was painted into being by the conflicting timelines, representing the death [[Lavos]] would inflict. Therefore, the computer concocted an elaborate plan to get Serge to unlock the Flame by stealing his body and fooling the Flame into thinking that the Serge facing it was genuine, using [[Lynx]] to carry this plan out. The computer predicted that Serge would one day use the split he had created to cross the dimensions. When this occurred, Serge was confronted by a squad of [[Acacia Dragoons]] under Deva [[Karsh]], but was saved by [[Kid]]. He managed to discover his death in this world, so he set out to figure out why this was true, and why the Dragoons were trying to capture him. It turned out that [[Lynx]] was manipulating them with an intent to capture Serge. When that failed, [[Lynx]] capitalized on Dragoon commander [[Viper]]'s intent to search for the [[Frozen Flame]] and managed to capture Serge's body, but Serge eventually got it back after gaining the blessings of the six ancient Dragon Gods. Serge used his endowed power to break into [[Chronopolis]] and confront [[Lynx]], who explained why he needed Serge's body. He defeated the supercomputer in mortal combat, only to discover that he'd been duped by the Dragon Gods, who took the Flame for themselves. Upon chasing them, he learned of [[Lavos]]' new form, the [[Time Devourer]]. [[Lavos]] had been controlling the Dragon Gods the entire time, and [[Belthasar]] had been using both Serge and [[FATE]] to fight him in an attempt to fix the broken timelines. In the end, with [[Belthasar]]'s aid, Serge was victorious over the monster, restoring the two divergent timelines into one unified timeline where Serge lives, [[Schala]] is rescued, and [[Lavos]] is destroyed. Serge supposedly loses his entire memory of the ordeal, but upon waking up on [[Opassa Beach]] at a point in time immediately before he traversed to the other world, he says something to [[Leena]] about [[Terra Tower]] and [[FATE]], so it's uncertain how much of his memory truly remains, or what the fate of the other characters in Serge's party turned out to be -- or certain characters from the original game, for that matter.

Bio

Serge's very existence is a veritable study in contradictions -- this is the basis for much of the philosophical discourse in Chrono Cross. Born to Marge and Wazuki of the fishing village of Arni in the El Nido Archipelago, Serge had a storied history with the world since before he knew how to write. At the tender age of three years old, he came into contact with the Frozen Flame as a result of his father Wazuki's desperation to heal his son after he had been mauled by a panther. The contact healed him and designated him as its Arbiter, or controller. This is what caused the Frozen Flame to be unusable by the supercomputer FATE. The computer, as well as Chronopolis, the military base built to house it, had been thrown back in time from the year 2400 A.D. in a failed experiment and in fact was responsible for terraforming El Nido, a process beginning in roughly 9600 B.C. Due to its obviously advanced technology, it had no problem binding both Miguel, a friend of Serge's father, and eventually Wazuki himself into cruel servitude under FATE. For the time being, however, Serge escaped unharmed.

Four years later, Serge had a literally life-changing experience by almost drowning. By the fact of his key place in the survival of humanity and thus the eventual construction of FATE, his chances of survival were exactly fifty-fifty. However, his survival would ensure contact with the Frozen Flame and would lead to its subsequent reacquisition by its original owner -- none other than Lavos. This would allow Lavos to put the absolute ruin of the Earth into effect again, which would prevent FATE from being built and creating these conditions in the first place. Thus, a spectacularly large time paradox ensued, resulting in the Keystone Timeline's split between Home World and Another World. The cosmic interference of Schala and Belthasar did not help -- it caused Home World's version of the Sea of Eden to morph into the Dead Sea, where a terrible image of the death of the world was painted into being by the conflicting timelines, representing the death Lavos would inflict. Serge lived on in this world, while in the other world Lavos was still defeated in 1999 A.D. by Crono and his band of adventurers, but at the cost of Serge's life. As a result of the destruction of Home World's version of Chronopolis, the Record of Fate terminals in that dimension ceased to function, which was something FATE could not allow. Therefore, the computer concocted an elaborate plan to get Serge to unlock the Flame by stealing his body and fooling the Flame into thinking that the Serge facing it was genuine, using Lynx to carry this plan out. The computer predicted that Serge would one day use the split he had created to cross the dimensions. When this occurred, Serge was confronted by a squad of Acacia Dragoons under Deva Karsh, but was saved by Kid. He managed to discover his death in this world, so he set out to figure out why this was true, and why the Dragoons were trying to capture him. It turned out that Lynx was manipulating them with an intent to capture Serge. When that failed, Lynx capitalized on Dragoon commander Viper's intent to search for the Frozen Flame and managed to capture Serge's body, but Serge eventually got it back after gaining the blessings of the six ancient Dragon Gods. Serge used his endowed power to break into Chronopolis and confront Lynx, who explained why he needed Serge's body. He defeated the supercomputer in mortal combat, only to discover that he'd been duped by the Dragon Gods, who took the Flame for themselves. Upon chasing them, he learned of Lavos' new form, the Time Devourer. Lavos had been controlling the Dragon Gods the entire time, and Belthasar had been using both Serge and FATE to fight him in an attempt to fix the broken timelines. In the end, with Belthasar's aid, Serge was victorious over the monster, restoring the two divergent timelines into one unified timeline where Serge lives, Schala is rescued, and Lavos is destroyed. Serge supposedly loses his entire memory of the ordeal, but upon waking up on Opassa Beach at a point in time immediately before he traversed to the other world, he says something to Leena about Terra Tower and FATE, so it's uncertain how much of his memory truly remains, or what the fate of the other characters in Serge's party turned out to be -- or certain characters from the original game, for that matter.

Radical Dreamers

The Radical Dreamers Timeline follows approximately the same path as what is known of Keystone T-1. The game takes place in a time period no more than a few years after 1000 A.D. The Serge in this game fights with a knife rather than a swallow. This timeline's Serge is a traveling musician who meets Kid in the town of Regiorra and joins up with her band of thieves, the Radical Dreamers. Magil, actually Magus in disguise, eventually joins the group as well. Serge's generally blue appearance was preserved for Chrono Cross, perhaps to indicate a connection to that game's heavy environmental themes.
