General Information
Prior to the release of the Chrono Trigger Prerelease section on the Chrono Compendium, those interested in the Prerelease were either forced to play the game itself, or consult a faulty FAQ by StarNeptune that can be found appended to Meowthnum1's Walkthrough FAQ at Gamefaqs. Its research was mostly truthful, but some information came from a Gamefaqs forums thread, where a few fans falsely posed to be experts on the ROM. These rumors and false assertions can now be debunked, as the Prerelease has been fully explored by the Compendium.
1. Schala and another character were originally party members.
This is untrue for a number of reasons; see Extra Playable Characters (CTP).
2. Schala's hair was originally blonde.
There is really nothing to substantiate this claim, as it is most likely a retroactive assertion made by examining Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers.
3. A lot of Magus's history that was not written into the game.
This claim is mostly vaporous; the self-proclaimed expert who speaks on the subject quotes Chrono Trigger directly, and makes statements that anyone can infer by simply playing the final game. To confirm this, he would have had to rip dialogue from the Prerelease and translate it from Japanese (no small wonder of a task). Ironically, he fails to mention Magus's history after the Ocean Palace incident, which would logically constitute most of his personal history.
4. Alfador was supposed to lead you to the Sun Palace, and the quest was supposed to go from there.
The joke that Alfador is the protagonist of Chrono Trigger or the Entity itself is long-running on the Gamefaqs Chrono Trigger forum, and probably yielded this farfetched and absurd idea.
5. The 65000000 B.C. continent is much larger that before.
While the Singing Mountain and Lost Village do appear, the continent is roughly the same size as its Chrono Trigger counterpart.
6. Walking through Schala's bookcase takes you to Zeal Dungeon, with remixed Ocean Palace music.
While this claim is true for the most part (see Zeal Palace (CTP) or Zeal Dungeon (CTP), the music played is the beta Zeal Palace music, as the Ocean Palace tune wasn't included in the Prerelease.
7. Exiting Enhasa turns Marle or Lucca into a caveman child sprite.
Until this can be reproduced, it is false, as entering and exiting Enhasa with these two characters has no such effect.
Note from StarNeptune: I guess my wording was wrong on that...I should have made myself a little clearer. Basically, there was a glitch when I played that when you entered Enhasa, the last member of your party (either Marle or Lucca...doesn't work with Robo) gets stuck in the doorway as a child caveman sprite while you wander around. I lost my ROM a long time ago, so I don't have the screenshot to back me up on this at the moment.
Note from Teflon: It does work, but only in Kajar. See here and here
8. One can access the Sealed Pyramid Dungeon from the topside.
This is incorrect, as the blue forcefield around the Sealed Pyramid (CTP) cannot be brought down to allow access. Storyline flags have been advanced and charged pendants have been hacked, but it remains in effect.
9. Lavos can be fought; he gives much experience in an easy battle, and then freezes the game.
There is no way to fight Lavos; triggering the eruption by loading 1999 A.D. (CTP) freezes the game before any battle ever takes place.
10. The End of Time contains three portals.
The person who apparently found these needed a miracle to see them, as loading the End of Time displaces Crono in a position where normal walking or the walk through walls code cannot move him. This position is also out of view from the portals.
