General Information

The Chrono Cross concept art was completed by Nobuteru Yuuki, who chose a style more mature than his predecessor's, Akira Toriyama, to better suit the feel of the game. The art spread through player's guides and publications, though unlike Chrono Trigger's art, which had no official collection book, Yuuki's work appeared in the tome Missing Piece. It contained many sketches, including unused and beta versions of characters, location sketches, and other miscellany. Sadly, garish Japanese characters often appear over the official art, limiting one's ability to take the art from that book. Ultimania also features official art, unobscured by text boxes or writing; however, the art is slightly smaller in comparison to Missing Piece's.

Art is listed by character, then scene. Below these two sections appear scans of Missing Piece done by SilentMartyr; they allow a closer look at the official art and all the other interesting sketchwork in the book.

Character descriptions:

Serge: A boy appearing in the tales of a faraway world with parallel realities. Cheerful by nature, Serge lived in a tiny fishing village until the day he found himself suddenly wrenched into another world altogether by a mysterious force. There, he meets Kid, setting off a chain of events that see him thrown into the battle over the legendary treasure known as the Frozen Flame. As their journey continues, Serge will learn that the two brushes with death he experienced in his youth relate not only to his own story but to the mysteries hidden in the heart of the world.

Lynx: A demi-human appearing in the tales of a faraway world with parallel realities. Cruel by nature, he will do whatever it takes to achieve his ends, although his true purpose and origins are shrouded in mystery. On the surface, it seems he is working in concert with General Viper, but behind the scenes he is involved in machinations with different goals entirely. He has earned the undying hatred and enmity of Kid after abducting her dear friend Lucca and burning their orphanage to the ground.

Kid: A girl appearing in the tales of a faraway world, intertwined with its own parallel reality. A member of a band of thieves calling themselves the Radical Dreamers, she invites Serge to join her on her adventure when he stumbles into Another World. Kind and forthright by nature, she hates showing vulnerability around others. She adored Lucca Ashtear, who raised her after discovering Kid orphaned as a baby. Lucca had a profound influence on Kid, and she's sworn vengeance on Lynx, the one responsible for the loss of her dear friend and the orphanage they called home.
