The Chancellor of the Kingdom of Guardia is an esteemed position, serving as the king's right hand, and probably officiating political and other non-military affairs in the area. Two of its titleholders have suffered less than dignified predicaments, however. The party of Chrono Trigger observed two chancellors in their travels; both men were somewhat quirky, but generally good natured and upbeat. However, this was only after two plots had been discovered - for in both the Middle Ages and Present, the Yakras captured the true chancellors and masqueraded as their prisoners in order to influence Guardia. In 600 A.D., the fake official kidnapped Queen Leene, as well as other soldiers of the kingdom, in order to eat them and cause an uproar at the castle. His plan was foiled by Crono, Lucca, and Frog, who assaulted his hideout at Manoria Cathedral and rescued the real chancellor and the queen. His release revealed an unfortunate vow on his part to create a criminal justice system in the kingdom, an idea that probably resulted in the overzealous actions of the guards when Crono was put on trial.

The second chancellor, residing in 1000 A.D., was also detained and impersonated by Yakra XIII, who locked him up in a chest. This figure was much more malovalent than the first, mercilessly ordering Crono's execution and plotting the entire overthrow of the kingdom. This included the staffing of the dungeon with Mystics. When the former plan failed, he attempted to kill Crono outright with the Dragon Tank. Later, he lied to Marle about the death of Queen Aliza and her father's grievances, further straining her relationship with him. His final effort came with the accusation of the king for selling treasures of the kingdom, namely, the Rainbow Shell. He was soon discovered, and the real chancellor was freed. The true official afterwards began preparing for the Moonlight Parade, at which he presented Nadia's Bell.
