Crimson Echoes events occur.

2305 AG: Belthasar, Director of Chronopolis, mysteriously vanishes after securing additional funding for the creation of an artificial intelligence capable of perfectly predicting human actions. Several items then under study disappear from Chronopolis but the Frozen Flame remains in the research facility. Directorship of Chronopolis changes hands frequently, but the Ashtear family remains consistently involved.

Robo enters stasis in an abandoned nuclear fallout bunker, where he lies undetected with important items in his care.

2378 AG: Rosalind Ashtear inherits the development of the artificial intelligence proposed by Belthasar over seventy years earlier. She develops it to 70% accuracy but full prediction of human behavior seems elusive. Still, the results are promising enough that Chronopolis research projects retain funding for the most part.

2388 AG: Dr. Ashtear accedes to Directorship of Chronopolis. As expensive time travel and AI research drags on without imminent results against a backdrop of pessimism within the wider scientific community, pressure to cut funding increases.

2394 AG: A 19 year old wanders through the streets of northern Zenan appearing quite shaken and spouting apparent nonsense. She winds up in an asylum and undergoes personality reconditioning, which becomes her personal hell. Strangely, her DNA does not match any other genetic record on file; it is as if she simply has no parents.

2396 AG: The vagrant, having chosen the name Iris upon completing her personality reconditioning, searches for a purpose. She displays knowledge of ancient fighting techniques and opens her own dojo before being recruited into the Polis Police.

2398 AG: Iris advances into the Hiyu Corps, an elite military body composed of the highest-ranking Polis Police officers. Her duties change and she is given assignments by political officials under the name Agent Nashmiya.

2399 AG: A mysterious elderly gentleman applies for a research assistanceship at Chronopolis. After breezing through entrance exams with unheard-of scores, he is awarded doctoral rank. Commonly referred to as Dr. B., he assists Director Ashtear in augmenting the accuracy of the artificial intelligence that has become her life's work. 99.98% accuracy is achieved and the artificial intelligence is termed FATE. Dr. B. suggests that the Frozen Flame be employed to meet its vast operational energy requirement.

2400 AG: Dr. B. makes a tweak to FATE's instruction set that pushes its theoretical predictive capability closer to 100% accuracy.

Agent Nashmiya is instructed to keep a close eye on events in Chronopolis after politicians begin worrying that AI FATE may acquire independent sentience and act in unpredictable ways while perfectly predicting the actions of any who wish to take action against it.

Dr. B. is given full command of the AI FATE project. He prepares to test its predictive accuracy against the historical record.
