I'm going to get to work on the section (it'll go much faster this weekend). I'll also drop a line to the psf rippers so we can get a soundtrack.

But hey, is that picture not AWESOME?

That picture makes Kid almost look male somehow...maybe it's just the angle. But yes, it is neat.

Mission accomplished. I've fielded a couple requests for psf rips, and have taken a bunch of screenshots and have documented other minor differences. Things left to do:

  • Use TIMViewer to scour textures
  • Take pictures of the rest of the dialogue

At Lizard Rock, Glenn and Kid join you to help with the Komodo Scales. They leave before you reach Opassa Beach. There, just as Serge is about to slip across the dimensions, a huge demo starts. Remember those demo movies seen on IGN and RPGamer? They're just recorded videos of this demo sequence! At the end, it even displays the credits and the "THE CLOCK RESTARTS 1999" message, so we know it's authentic. So I now have highest quality possible screenshots without those annoying watermarks, which will allow me to replace every existing thing on the Chrono Cross Beta Page. There's a lot if dialogue in those sequences (like at Viper Manor and Lucca's Orphanage) that I still need to snapshot. And to clarify the most pressing issue, the green person in the Manor library is Riddel. I was hoping for some kind of superdimensional Gaspar like everyone else, but it's just her (she gives some remarks to the party).

We'll have a few Japanese strings to translate, but most of the work is done aside from the soundtrack ripping. Even then, we still have this mysterious rip created by an industrious, anonymous individual. We can release it in the meantime until we get a formal rip.

Spring Break is an exciting time, as I'll also be creating the Speed Run / Advanced Gameplay pages with Molotov's help. The Chrono Trigger Japanese speed run master also knows some English, by the way, so that's going to be amazing as well.

Yea I cannot wait to go on Spring Break. Except I'll be in Florida from the 16th-22nd, but I can maybe get some work done during the boring nights when there is nothing to do! Too bad I got HW to do too :(. It's time to work on CT+! 8)

Oh, forgot. The last big change: Razzly appears in Hydra Marshes to keep Serge out versus a simple villager.

Now, time to get cracking on the beta page...

Looking through PSicture, there is a treasure trove of unused or conceptual portraits / status menu images buried in there. Stuff from Missing Piece and perhaps a few icons we haven't even seen before. But we're still running into our old problem. Take the attached image of demo Turnip: how do we eliminate that junk without losing part of the image? Chrono'99, how'd you get those portraits for Cross the first time?

Aha, that Turnip picture is so funny-looking it almost makes him a good character! (Well, either that or it's just the impression of seeing something new...)

It's been such a long time, if I recall correctly the stuff I ripped had no junk, there was nothing to edit besides merging the different parts of the pictures (each one came in 2 parts side by side). But I'm pretty sure I didn't use PSicture, it was PSX MC or something like that. I deleted it from my hard drive a long time ago, might have to reinstall it...

I'll give it a try too and maybe make a post at romhacking.net. There's a neat Beach Bum dialogue icon I can't wait to rip. It might genuinely be a Nu.

Was it PSMPlay? PSXMC doesn't handle those image files, but to get PSMPlay, I have to mess with WinASPI32.dll. And the last time I touched that .dll, my CD drive functionality was seriously affected, so I'm not too desirous to tinker with it. I tried editing settings in TIMViewer and PSicture to no avail, so...help is needed again.

I think I was using PSXMC but... I still haven't even touched the demo yet aha. Will try this weekend since it's Easter holidays.

Set up a virtual machine with Vmware, then install win98 on it. That way you can't screw your real cd-rom.

Good idea; I was considering dual-booting for some old games that SP2 won't support with my current graphics card.

Wow... That Turnip image looks so... odd, and different compared to the art style in the finished game. Is there one like that for each party member?

There are for a select handful at the end. Several characters have normal portraits, but there are some doodle placeholders like that Turnip picture (and some dialogue icons for them too).
