Discuss terms/names origins in Radical Dreamers
« on: December 16, 2008, 03:10:34 pm »
OK, let's begin.
I'll list some names of character and locations here.

Three named Acacia Dragoons:

ゴルバ(goruba)
It was translated as Gorba by Demiforce.
The names is used in a Japanese television movie 'Space Battleship Yamato' series. Goruba was a spaceship of the Black Nebula Empire.
Suggested translation by me: Golba

メルギド(merugido)
It was translated as Merkid by Demiforce.
Well, the only name I can recall is a town from Dragon Quest series(DQ I, II, III...).
And this name is also used in yujioh, a Japanese manga, but I don't see any relationship between them because this manga is published after 1996. It was translated as Melchid.

ゾランダ(zoranda)
It was translated as Zorander by Demiforce.
Hmm, not sure about it. Perhaps it is Zolander, from Star Wars, but I'm not familiar with it. And Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander is a main character in the fictional The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, still, I know nothing about it...

Miscellaneous collections in the treasure room in scenario 'SuperXtreme Alphacosmos Police Case EX Ultra'

*statue of the hero Kafoul from the planet Tarust
It's from the Janpanese TV anime series Captain Future.

*stuffed Darmafos from Saturn
...no idea, never heard such creature...

*a Trifid worm plant from Greylens
No idea...I know Trifid and grey lens, though...

*Krendathu Royal Jelly on a Lifemaker-inscribed plate
Well, it's Klendathu. Know Starship Troopers? Yes, that is it.

*the Apostle's Crystal
Hmm, nothing to explain.

*a genuine Swiss Army Knife, embedded with Zora's Blue Stone
Planet Zora is from the Japanese anime television series Combat Mecha Xabungle.

I wouldn't even know of it if not for the similarly named member of the Compendium who contributed so much back in the day, but Greylensman (or is the series Grey Lensman?) is a science fiction story or comic or something, I guess...idk if that's what that reference is from, but since it's from that wacky chapter (isn't that the one with the aliens?)...*shrugs*

Yeah, that is possible. Perhaps those names are from Kato's favourite fictions and tv shows.

Funny, I search Kitsune forest's orginal name(キツネコブタ) via google, the first result leads to the encyclopedia here...
In fact, there are only 3 results(although lots of pages), the first one is Radical Dreamers, the second one is someone's pen-name, and the last one is a location name from Xenogears(also square's RPG).

A villager from Lahan village has a conversation with Fei at Shakhan Square.

Quote
MAN
It's me.
Moulten from the Laughing Pig Pub. You'd never know it from the way I look now though... Ha ha ha ha.
So how's my wife and daughter doing back in the village?

The Japanese script:

Quote
モルテン 「オレだよ。わらうキツネコブタ亭のモルテンだよ。こんな格好してるからわかんねえか……ハッハッハッ。
       どうだい、オレの娘と女房は村で元気にやってるかい?」

Funny enough they translated it to laughing pig, really LMAO.

BTW, the small icons in save menu look like some animal heads. I can't tell whether it is a pig or fox(probably a mix-up).

Interesting! It's always intriguing to discover allusions and references between Xenogears and the Chrono series.
